Jim Rich and the Jefferson County chamber of commerce executives met with Commissioner Brent Weaver and the new Airport Manager, Jennifer Hogancamp on Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting was to get acquainted and begin discussions about support for the airport. It has been sometime since we emphasized the issue of passenger service in and out of the Jack Brooks Regional Airport. Declining enplanements is a trend that must be reversed if the airport will continue its ranking with the FAA for resources. We also need to capture the dollars the area misses when travelers do not fly more directly to us. We discussed the reliability of flights and customer service. Ms. Hogancamp gives us a fresh set of eyes to reexamine airport issues and deserves our support.

Jim Rich attended the 15th Annual Texas Workforce Conference in Houston in his capacity as the Business Services Chairman of Workforce Solutions of Southeast Texas. Our local workforce board, staff, and contractors received awards for the speed unemployed claimants are being re-employed and the reduction of administrative costs for childcare services. Checks for $25,000 and $50,000 were presented to be used for programs and services. Congratulations to Marilyn Smith and Lois Cornwell for their local leadership.

We were visited by an out of town prospect looking at Texas and our area for an economic development project. It was a visit that occurred after we responded to a request for proposal through the Governor's Office. Congratulations and thank you to Jessica Hill who prepared the response and coordinated the visit. We made the short list which is always an accomplishment considering the competition.

In the past year, we have welcomed 205 new members to the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce family. Each year, we hold a free event to honor our newest members, and invite you to meet them. Please join us tomorrow in a festive, relaxed atmosphere as our new members Let It Shine!
