The Advancing New Technologies at Lamar University Division led by Louis Wilson  held their bi-annual Lamar Champions Breakfast on Tuesday morning. Industry leaders gathered to get updates from the university on research activities and programs. Dr. Jimmy Simmons provided welcoming  remarks, followed by a review of the student cooperative education program with testimony from student  engineers about their learning experiences. There was a virtual tour of the composite materials lab and discussion of Lamar's capabilities for composite research. They were also updated on the innovation and commercialization center. Special guests included representatives from ZEEP Inc. and BP Biofuels of North America, two new companies locating to  our area.  The breakfast was sponsored by Capital One Bank and Universal Coin & Bullion.

The Southeast Texas Economic Development Foundation had their quarterly meeting on Wednesday. Chaired by Charlie Foxworth, the group adopted their annual budget., affirmed the approval of a new small business loan, reviewed the portfolio of existing loans, and discussed future projects including plans for Business Development Week scheduled for April 24-28, 2012.

The 108th annual meeting was held on Thursday with a VIP reception at the Beaumont Civic Center, the exchange of leadership from Nathan Cross to Robert Turner, and the presentation of the Spindletop Award to AT&T. A great evening of entertainment followed with Michael Grimm and the Little River Band. Thank you to all the sponsors who made the evening a success.
