| WELCOME TO THE PRINCE OF PEACE NEWSLETTER | | |
Sunday, February 12th is Scout Sunday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
From the very beginning, the Scouting Movement has encouraged its members to be faithful in the practice of their religious beliefs. The World Organization of the Scout Movement writes that the "whole educational approach of the Scout Movement consists in helping young people transcend the material world and go in search of the spiritual values of life". Both the Scout Oath and the Scout Law ask a Scout to pledge his honor to do his best to do his duty to God and his country and to be reverent. The Charter and Bylaws of the Boy Scouts of America maintain that no boy can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing his obligation to God.
As Troop 542 nears 50 years of service, we wish to thank the congregation of Prince of Peace for your generous support chartering. We currently have 36 boys and numerous adults in membership, many of which are Prince of Peace members. The Troop has to date 77 youth who have been awarded the rank of Eagle; the highest rank attainable in the program of the Boy Scouts of America. They are proudly serving the country and communities where they live now.

Return to the Lord, your God, who is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. Joel 2:13.
During Lent people of God will reflect on the meaning of their baptism into Christ's death and resurrection. The sign of ashes suggests our human mortality and frailty. What seems like an ending is really an invitation to make each day a new beginning, in which we are washed in God's mercy and forgiveness.

| TANZANIA, AFRICA--A Message from Pastor Chad | | |
"Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him"
John 7:38
You may have heard that Prince of Peace is beginning to expand our global outreach by developing ministry partnerships with Lutheran Christians in Tanzania. I am excited that Jack and Elaine Zimmer have signed on to be the first participants from POP (along with our family) in the Vision Trip to Tanzania that I will be leading this June 20 - July 5. Ten travelers will head out on a life changing adventure to east Africa.
I want to address one simple question ... WHY? My answer is on our webpage. Go to the following link www.princeofpeacechurch.org and click Tanzania. |
| NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION | | |
New Member Orientation Sessions will be held February 12th and 19th. Each new member should attend both sessions. A light lunch will be served and childcare will be available. For more information contact Lynell at lynellk@princeofpeacechurch.org or call the office at
763-560-8958. New members will be welcomed on Sunday, February 26th at both services. If you were unable to attend this time, look for the next New Member Orientation Sessions on April 22nd and 29th. |
| FELLOWSHIP FRIENDS | | |
We are again seeking current members to be Fellowship Friends to "team up" with a new family or individual when they join Prince of Peace in February. As their Fellowship Friend, you would contact them and offer support as they make connections and get involved in the church community. If possible, we'd like you to come for lunch, meet your family, and attend their new-member orientation with Pastor Chad on Sunday, February 19th, from 11:30 am -1:00 pm. Or you can make arrangements to meet them the following Sunday. For more information on Fellowship Friends, call Mary Gilleshammer at
612-987-6067. |
| LIBRARY NEWS | | |
On Saturday, January 28th Jan Johnson, Shirley Thompson and Sally Onstad attended a meeting of the Twin City Area Church Library Association at Zion Lutheran
Church in Anoka. Sally presented many ideas to develop in promoting the use of the church library.
Headlining the morning was Sandra Benitez, author of bag lady: A Memoir, relating her poignant story of her struggle with the chronic, debilitating disease of ulcerative colitis. She told how she coped with it before and after having an ileostomy. Come to the library today to find this book and others that are as inspiring and encouraging a read!
