Applying ashes in the form of a cross has long been associated with the beginning of the season of Lent. Ashes carry a symbolic reference our mortality as it is clearly marked on our foreheads with the phrase, "Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return." This phrase from Genesis 3 harkens back to the fall of man and our ever present need of God's salvation. Lent is a time for personal reflection, for remorseful and repentant hearts to grow even more deep in our understanding of Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He made for us. The 40 days of Lent are no accident either. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert being tempted. He sacrificed for our salvation, and through study, prayer and fasting this Lenten season, we can join with Jesus and deepen our faith in His promise of salvation.

Lent Begins March 9 with Ash Wednesday

Midday Worship at 11 am; Evening Worship at 7 pm

Fruits of the SpiritLent can  bear fruit. It is one of many growing seasons for us. Our seasonal study will explore the Fruits of the Spirit, preparing us for a spiritual check-up as we support our ministry model of "Grow Deep and Reach Out." Each Wednesday we will explore the fruits and how effectively we use these gifts to the glory of our Savior. This is also a pivotal mentoring season for our Axis youth. As you mentor, you have oppotunity to build upon many of the fruits of the spirit, enabling Christ to work through you. The opportunities for Lent are many. May we prepare our hearts and prepare the way of the Lord!

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
CLANCY'S CORNER

 amanda

It's hard to believe that February has already slipped through our fingers as quickly as it came. As we head into March (which hopefully brings warmth and sunshine our way) I hope you can all take the time to slow down and sense God's presence in our fast paced lives. March will be my last month at Prince of Peace and then our beloved Katie will be back and ready for you beginning April 4th. Thank you to all the parents and families for making my time here special. It says something wonderful about a flexible and accepting congregation. See you all at Veggie Camp!

God's Peace,

Amanda Clancy, a.k.a "Captain Awesome"

SUNDAY SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS: MUSIC LEADER and WORKSHOP LEADERS NEEDED!

We continue to have a need for workshop leaders for 9 am and 10:30 am. A little help is needed in the Resource Room, too. We need someone to oversee the Resource Room to put away bins, make copies and get supplies for teachers when needed. Please let me know if you are interested. If you have children in Sunday School, this is a wonderful and rewarding way to support the children's ministry. Please contact Amanda for more information.

CEAP FOOD DRIVE IS ON!
Filling the pceapantry shelves is key! Let's do what we can!
March is CEAP food drive month. It's part of the Minnesota Food Share project. All the Sunday School classes AND the congregation will have a little friendly competition to see who can collect the most non-perishable food! Let's fill the barrels to the max and help feed those who need it! Bring some pantry items every Sunday in March!

May the Lord draw near to you during the season of Lent. May you find peace in the gift of salvation and may you reach out to others with the same unconditional love that Christ demonstrated in His life, death and resurrection.
