Greetings! 

 

Romance is in the air as you visit the wineries the first two weekends of this month along the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. Take your special someone to taste lusciuos red wines, special desserts and of course chocolate. There'll be concerts, a Valentine's Brunch and a Fabulous Dinner. Check out the details in our February Events page below.


This month we're highlighting Long Point Winery located on the east side of Cayuga Lake in Aurora where you can find one of their newest wines Rubitage.

 

In March we're hosting two events our popular Mardi Gras event and a New event "Say Cheese" where we're partnering with the Finger Lakes Cheese Trail.

Long Point Winery

 

A quiet January has given Gary Barletta, winemaker at Long Point Winery, time to pamper his 2010 vintage wines. Their estate grown Riesling will again be introduced as a Dry and Semi-Dry just in time for the warmer months ahead.  The staff and customers are anxiously awaiting the release of their estate grown Pinot Grigio that was hand nurtured once again by Dan Stevens.  

 

In 2010 Gary tried his hand at producing a blend  consisting ofred wine red varietals in unique combinations, 55 %Merlot, 27%Cabernet Sauvignon, 9%Cabernet Franc and 9%Syrah.    Rubitage, as it is called has proven to be a huge success with their red wine lovers, with its nuance flavors of dark berry fruit, black berry currants and a hint of eucalyptus. This wine pairs nicely with prime rib.

 

Another wine released and almost sold out of, is their 2008 Barbera. (Not to worry the next vintage is aging nicely)  This wine, reasonably priced and  soft on the palate is  extremely popular with Italian Wine lovers.  For those individuals looking for that dryer Port, Long Point Winery has a fortified Zinfandel called Amazin.  Say no more, the name says it all

The tasting room is stocked, and the view from the tasting room gets more beautiful each day.

Feel the Luck of the Irish at this year's Mardi Gras event.  You'll receive Mardi Gras Beads, a chance to pick the lucky coin plus participate in a scavenger hunt.

 

At all of our events, you receive a wine glass, wine and food pairings and recipe cards. This year new to our event is our Scavenger Hunt.

 

Take part and play in our first Scavenger Hunt to win ourwhite wine bottles version of a Pot of Gold, 1 case of Gold Medal Winning Wines.

 

Surely you'll be dancing a jig if you're one of the lucky participants to win one of our Grand Prizes from Barrister's Bed and Breakfast in Seneca Falls, Country Inn & Suites in Ithaca or Inn at the Finger Lakes in Auburn.

 

Advance tickets: $25.00 per person plus handling fee and sales tax.  Designated Driver tickets: $20.00 per person plus handling fee and sales tax. At the door: $30.00 plus sales tax.

 

How it works: Visit the 16 winery members along the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, read the clues and either figure out the answers or find the objects at the winery. See how many answers you can get right. Let the Hunt begin!

 

We have quite a selection of Mardi Gras packages this year from hotels in Ithaca, Seneca Falls and Auburn ranging from $230.00 to $375.00 for a one night stay and $310.00 to $600.00 for a two night. "Say Cheese"

Savor the spectacular tastes of artisan cheese and fine wines along the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. Receive a wineglass lanyard at your Cheesefirst starting point winery and travel along the trail for an experience of wine and food pairings.

 

We're hosting a special "Say Cheese" contest so make sure to take all your favorite photo shots over the weekend and enter them via facebook or email. The winner who takes the best wine & cheese photo at the event will win a Specialty Gift Basket from our local cheeseries and wineries.

February 5    Montezuma Winery, Walking in a Winter Wineryland
Join Montezuma Winery and the Montezuma Audubon Center for this family event. Activities include a guided nature walk through a portion of the Refuge, bird watching and tracking animals, a winemaker's luncheon and a wine pairing and a live birds of prey presentation (snowshoe rental available or bring your own). Roast homemade marshmallows over an open fire and make your own smores for dessert. Reservations required. The Cayuga Lake Wine Trail is the first organized and longest running wine trail in the Unites States, comprised of 16 members including 15 wineries, a cidery, a meadery and four distilleries. These wineries have won over 5,000 national and international medals and six "Governor's Cups", with winery members being titled "Winery of the Year" three years in a row.
