Mustang Trot 2011 - What A Day!
mustangs no type

Congratulations to our amazing Meadows Mustangs on another incredible Mustang Trot! Last Thursday, under gorgeous sunny skies, over 425 students, teachers, and staff members ran, jogged, and walked in our 30-minute jog-a-thon. The Mustang Trot is a fundraiser for Meadows PTA, but it's also a well-loved tradition at Meadows that everyone looks forward to, and the smiles we saw around the track (even on tired faces) were proof that it was another wonderful success! Highlights included.... Our adorable Trot t-shirts, designed by 5th grader Allyson Doyle ... "When I say MUSTANG, you say TROT!" ... An awesome performance of our new school song by some of our 5th grade choir students, with lots of sideline back-up from the other grades ... High fives from Super Stang ... Over 20 raffle prizes awarded ... Music, cheering, excitement, and LOTS of laps being run!  In the next few weeks, we'll have numbers to report, on total laps run, dollars raised, and announce the winners of the Top Fundraiser and Top Lap Runner prizes!  Thank you to all you Meadows families -- kids, parents, and all other supporters -- for making the Trot such a fantastic event, once again!

MBEF & TEDx
Nairobi and Newark Students Studied the Same Lesson Today Personal digital learning democratizes learning around the world. Students don't need high school buildings to graduate from high school. Customization of curriculum, motivation to learn, and equalization of access is the future of education. Tom Vander Ark, CEO of OpenEd Solutions spoke at our MBEF sponsored TEDx conference on Oct. 22. We heard Tom's speech that day, but when we listed to it again online, there was more food for thought the second time around. Watch here. Keep the conversation going: go to TEDxmb.com and tell us what you think of Tom's idea.
Grades of Green
Grades of Green logo Help Wanted: No Experience Necessary

As you know, we have made a big environmental and educational impact on the kids at Meadows in the last few of years. But we need help to do it again this year!!  Prior to Grades of Green we were contributing 9-10 bags of trash to the landfills per day just from the lunch program. Our Trash Free Lunch program reduces our waste to about 1 bag. Volunteering at lunch is a great way to see what your children are and are not eating at lunch, plus you get to meet other great volunteers.  You might be shocked to see how many kids take one bite and toss the rest.

Need more one-on-one time with your child?  Does your child have a test to study for?  Take a walk to school on Wednesdays. On the way there, you can practice the times table or even just have a good chat with your child. If you can get to school 15 minutes early, you can also help us pass out wrist bands to others who joined in on the morning stroll.  Next to coffee, it is a great way to start the morning. Can't make it to lunch or have too hard of a time just getting out the door in the morning?  We have plenty of other opportunities to help make our environment better for the next generation. Please contact Carol Paden at carol@teampaden.com or Maroun Aboutanos at maroun88@gamil.com to get involved.
