YMCA Healthy Kids Day, June 3
|
Mark Your Calendar! On Sunday, June 3rd, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. we will be celebrating YMCA Healthy Kids Day. This FREE community event celebrates the healthy growth and development of children and families with many fun activities for all. Visit Kids 'N Motion RE Cycle BUY Cycle Donate your gently used bike to the YMCA of Oakville during the following drop off dates: - Wednesday, May 16 from 4:00-8:00 pm
- Friday, May 25 from 4:00-8:00 pm
- Sunday, May 27 from 9:00 am-2:00 pm
Bicycles must be able to be refurbished.
Kids 'N Motion is a youth-driven community initiative that collects, refurbishes and gives back bicycles to kids in need in our community.
And the fun continues at night for youth CYAN (Children Youth Action Network) and the Y are also kicking off the summer with Community SummerFest from 7:00-9:00 p.m on June 3. This FREE event is for youth 14-18 years.

Spring into Fitness at the Y

With summer just around the corner, we wanted to remind you that we have many options for getting into shape -- both inside and out. From youth to adult, we have something for everyone!
- GRAVITY group fitness classes - Come and try
this new and popular workout that provides full body conditioning through resistance training. - Youth Boot Camp - Calling all youth! Challenge yourselves with a variety of courses designed to develop strength and agility, and increase cardio development.
Session runs May 1-June 5. - Adult Boot Camps - Two sessions of outdoor Boot Camp with challenging circuits that will get you ready for summer. May 3 and June 7 sessions.
- 5K Running Clinic - Grab your running shoes for this Saturday morning running clinic. Goal race is the OTMH Classic Father's Day 5K on June 17. Session starts May 12.

Bye Bye Biostrength Equipment
Beginning in September, we will be replacing our
Biostrength line of equipment in the Wellness Centre.
The equipment will be replaced by some popular Technogym Selection Line pieces, along with some other newer pieces designed to create a full body workout.

Join us for our Annual General Meeting on Monday, June 4. Hear from Scott Haldane, President and CEO of YMCA Canada on how YMCAs are helping to building healthy communities across Canada. Neil Lester, Board member, will present the YMCA of Oakville's new five-year Strategic Plan and Darryl McKenzie, President and CEO will present our plan to move the Oakville YMCA Beyond these Walls.

Summer Camp Leadership Programs for Youth

Know any teens and youth who want to take their summer experiences to the next level? We offer a variety of Youth Leadership Programs that are geared for teens and youth looking to get more than just 'play' out of their summer camp. Check out these great camps:
Wilderness Leadership Development Trips The two-week wilderness development trips are perfect for the outdoor enthusiast! Ages 12-14 and 15-18 yrs - July 23-August 4
Youth Leadership at Valens Leader in Training LIT - In this three-week program teens will focus on developing leadership and team skills that can easily be applied into all facets of your life! Ages 13-16 yrs - July 9-27
Counsellor in Training CIT - This fun and intensive four-week program will provide youth with the leadership necessary to become a camp counsellor. Ages 14-17 - July 3-27
Sport Leadership at the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA This three-week certification course is for those sport lovers that are ready to take their skills even further. Ages 13-17 - July 3-20 and August 7-24

Every Child Deserves a Chance

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe and nurturing environment where they can grow to their potential whether it's in a camp program, at a child care centre or in a swimming class.
But not every child has this chance. With the generous contributions from our donors to the YMCA Strong Kids campaign it makes it possible for individuals who have financial limitations to have access to our programs. Child Care Get Your Move On Event
During the week of May 28-June 1 children in our child care programs will show off their moves in support of the YMCA Strong Kids campaign. Each child care centre will participate in our "Get Your Move On for YMCA Strong Kids" where the children will take part in various activities throughout the day. The department's goal is to raise $13,000!
Extended until May 31! A Sweet way to Make a Difference Make a donation to our YMCA Strong Kids campaign and you'll be entered into a draw to win a custom designed cake* from Maria's Cake Art Works.

Virtual Swim Challenge Poyang Lake, China, April 9-June 9 Although the upcoming 2012 Olympics are in London, this year's Virtual Swim Challenges are inspired by the locations of past Olympics Games. The current challenge is to swim the equivalent distance of Poyang Lake in China (71km)! Our aquatics staff will join a different team each day to complete the lengths by June 9.

YMCA Mobile Skate and BMX Park

 Time to get your skateboards and BMX bikes out of the garage - the YMCA Mobile Skate and BMX Park is coming to a neighborhood near YOU! The Skate and BMX Park is open for all ages and abilities - so come on out to show off your skills or learn some new ones. Keep your eyes open for updates on skate park times at various locations.

There's still room in our popular Community Sports Our sports programs promote activity and provide players with the opportunity to learn or develop skills all areas of the sports, regardless of ability level.

Registration Dates Registration for September begins on May 14. Parents of children currently enrolled can pre-register beginning May 1, 2012.

Swim Lesson Updates
|  | During the week of May 14-19, come in to meet with your child's swim instructor.
Visit the viewing area five minutes before the end of class to get an update on your child's progress -- no appointment required! Our instructors will be excited to provide feedback on your child.
