The Skin-y Facts on the Benefits of Antioxidants in Skin Care Products

Theresa Pacheco, MD, Associate Professor

University of Colorado Hospital, Department of Dermatology

Medical Director, Cosmetic Dermatology

Anti-what?  We hear about antioxidants all the time but how many of us really know what they are other than something that is supposed to be good for us.  The dictionary tells us:Antioxidants

antioxidant

(æntɪˈɒksɪ dənt biology)

a substance, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, or beta carotene, that counteracts the damaging effects of oxidation in a living organism.

Dr. Theresa Pacheco enlightens us even further on the benefits and what these miracle substances really are. Read about the facts on the benefits of antioxidants and skin care products...

The Sinuses: What Are They and Why Do So Many Have Trouble?

Todd T. Kingdom, MD,

Vijay Ramakrishnan, MD,

Robie Gray, PA-C

That nob in the middle of our face does so much more than hold up glasses or allow us to stop and smell the roses.  It is the primary conduit of the oxygen that keeps us alive. It is connected to the sinuses which perform a variety of functions. When we are healthy, we take all of this for granted. However, if you have ever had sinus trouble, you know that there is a lot more going on behind that nose than you ever imagined.  Read more from UCH sinus experts about how sinuses work and how they might cause us aggravation and headaches.

Gregory Austin, MD, MPH

Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of Colorado, Denver

Colon Cancer AwarenessWhat comes to mind when you think of Colon Cancer?  Katie Couric and her campaign for colonoscopies?  Men?  March (Colorectal Awareness Month)?  Did you know that colon cancer hits women hard too?  This month is a great time to think about preventative screening.  Dr. Gregory Austin tells us more about the facts about awareness and screening.
