Peekskill Rotary Awards Grant to Oakside Teacher Michele Laura Oakside teacher Michele Laura recently received an educational grant from the Peekskill Rotary for $1,000 to enhance the use of technology in teaching. Ms. Laura, who already uses a HoverCam document camera in her classroom, wrote the grant to obtain four more HoverCams for her colleagues at Oakside. She was also invited to visit a Peekskill Rotary meeting to demonstrate the use of document cameras, which project any object placed under them onto an interactive whiteboard, screen, or wall. "These are wonderful tools for helping children see anything from a type of insect to examples of student artwork," Ms. Laura observed. "They work very well with our Eno whiteboards and help our students really participate actively in their learning." Oakside Principal Mary Foster commented, "We are very grateful to Peekskill Rotary for their generous support and for their genuine curiosity about educational technology. Ours is a great partnership."
