Students Sing to Welcome Back Teachers
Board President and Superintendent Extend Positive Messages
At the opening day convocation on September 1 for all District personnel, the Peekskill Middle School auditorium rang with the musical contributions of music teacher Lawrence DelCasale and talented students, shown above: senior Darrel Kidd, sixth grader Miles Harvey, junior Raja Redd, and sophomore Afua Yeboah.
Board president Joseph Urbanowicz, shown at left, welcomed teachers and staff and Board colleague Marcela Bobe, and reminded everyone that "It's all about the kids," and that the Board, faculty, and staff are partners in the educational endeavor.
Superintendent Jim Willis added his welcome and described his hopes for a strong year ahead, with a renewed emphasis on literacy. He spoke of the importance of family, both at home and at school. He talked about the challenges of budgets and accountability and encouraged everyone to meet what lies ahead with a positive spirit, and with creativity and "outside the box" thinking. He concluded by saying: "On behalf of the students, we all thank you for the wonderful work you do and your outstanding dedication to the district and its children. Have a great and successsful year." |

Letter from the Superintendent:
A New School Year Begins
Dear Friends,
As the 2011-2012 gets ready to officially begin for students on Tuesday, September 6, teachers and staff have been very busy getting ready for an exciting year of teaching and learning. I am sure this will be a memorable and enjoyable experience for all.
Peekskill High School guidance staff and Principal Sherrill Lazarus welcomed the new ninth grade class to an orientation on August 29, and Peekskill Middle School Principal David Fine and his faculty welcomed the new sixth grade class to two days of orientation. New teachers received orientation and training, and our sports teams are busy at practice. All our teachers and staff reported for duty on September 1, and our buildings are full of the bustle of preparation. Our maintenance staff has worked very hard over the summer, and our buildings reflect that effort. As I reminded faculty and staff-our educational team - it is always about the students, our children in this district.
Please be sure to visit our Web site at www.peekskillcsd.org for updates and events, and be sure to get involved soon. We wish all Peekskill students and families the very best start to the new school year.
Sincerely yours,
Jim Willis, Superintendent |
