Hill Work / Riding Out Clinic

You must have your instructor's permission to take this clinic. It teaches students how to ride safely outside the ring & over uneven terrain at the walk, trot & possibly (if safe) the canter. We will cover: how to balance the horse going up or down hills, maintaining safe distances, controlling an overly enthusiastic horse & how to have fun while staying safe out of the ring.
Approximate breakdown of time:
20 min groom & tack
10 min lecture
1 hr riding (starting in the ring)
20 min untack, groom & turn-out closing discussion

Ground Sessions dates: 11/13 12/11 2:00 to 4:00 cost: $30 / 2 hrs Equestrians of all ages gain from a greater understanding of how horses think & communicate. These sessions will help develop mutual respect between horse & human, & will teach skills & techniques that motivate the horse to be a more willing partner on the ground & under saddle.

Independent Riding / Leasing Clinics
dates: 9/17 10/15 11/12 3:00 to 5:30 11/26 2:00 to 4:30 cost: $60 / 2.5 hour
You must have your instructor's permission to participate in this clinic, designed to teach students how to manage an entire ride on their own: proper warm up, organizing a ride, & cooling down the horse. We'll discuss short & long-term goals as well as practical matters: adjusting stirrups & girth while mounted; what to do if your ride isn't going well or you get bored; how to best care for the horse before & after the ride; & how to safely turn-out.

Video Clinic - Jumper/Equitation

Our younger riders benefit greatly from more time with the ponies & in the saddle. Some topics this year will be: riding bareback, steering & school figures, painting a pony, field work, & games on horseback.
10/7's Pony School Clinic participants will ride bareback & learn how to balance without a saddle.
9/24's Cloverbuds will help students figure out what the horse's body language is telling them. What are some warning signs that your horse is in a bad mood? What should you do? How do you make friends with a horse?
11/12's Cloverbuds will teach students how to identify illness or injury & about the horse's unique digestive system & what they eat.

Trail Riding
dates: 10/22 (5 riders) 11/19 (5 riders) 12/3 (5 riders) 3:00 to 5:00 cost: $50 / 2 hr
All riders are welcome on trail rides. While touring our scenic farm riders will learn how to safely navigate through woods, up & down hills, & through fields of tempting grass. We'll also review emergency halting & dismounting. These rides will be WALK ONLY unless the entire group is capable of trotting safely. Riders looking for more of a challenge should register for a Hill Work / Riding Out Clinic.

Healing Touch with Horses date: 10/9
This is one of a three-part seminar for people who love animals. Friday 10/7 is an introduction to Healing Touch, Saturday 10/8 you will work with dogs, & on Sunday you'll be at MacNair's with the horses.
