If showing horses is a topic of conversation at your house but you're not sure what that entails, you are invited to an informal question and answer session.
Even if you've been to shows before, you are welcome to come and join the discussion.

Showing 101 For Parents and/or Adult Riders
No previous showing experience of any kind is necessary in order to attend. Those of you who already have horse show experience are also welcome. There are undoubtedly others all along the showing spectrum who have the same concerns you do: Are you (or is your child) ready to compete? What's the difference between the levels of shows and which would suit you best? What's required at each level? What kind of time commitment are we talking about here? Can we afford it? Thom will give you a brief overview of horse shows and then answer questions, whether practical or philosophical.
The benefits of showing horses are numerous and varied. Yes, there is the whole Thrill of Victory thing (see also: Agony of Defeat.) But competition, and learning to prepare for it, also teaches organization, how to come to grips with "stage-fright", methods for maintaining focus, and the art of winning and losing gracefully. Showing helps young riders gain the self-esteem and confidence that comes from working hard to accomplish a goal. They also come to realize that, although awards are nice, it's not just about the ribbons.
There is no cost but we ask that you let us know in advance if you plan to come so we can email you some showing information to look
over. If you have questions (and who doesn't?) please take this opportunity to get answers.
