"Mackenzie and Martina helped me figure out that the indoor ring at the Hunt Center is not as scary as I thought. Now I actually think it's kind of fun in there!"

Camp Cheval's
continuing adventures:
Our campers learn so much! Not just about horses either. For instance, we found out that a praying mantis is attracted to a shirt with flowers on it. It's still mostly about the horses, though. And not just the riding part... although that's fun, too! photos of Camp Cheval |
Seems like long ago

when we were wishing for summer!

Laura & Patti ready for Raleigh Dressage
Patti & Laura prepared for Raleigh Dressage I & II by having Verne Batchelder from Vermont out to the farm to help them put on the final polish. Best of luck!

Dear Friends,
There are some new faces at Country Acres - we want to extend a big welcome to Frances and her horse Baloo, who
have re-located to the area from Wilmington. Frances works at Wake Med
and Baloo has a job as a hunter. We are very glad you're here.
August will see the last few sessions of camp and the first few lessons of the Riding School year.
We want to (again) thank our wonderful camp counselors and instructors who make riding and being at camp so much fun.
And we should mention that our instructors make riding during the school year lots of fun as well. (Riding without stirrups is fun, right?!)
As always, we appreciate any input you have on how to make our programs better.
Best, Nancy

Congratulations 4-H Show Team
We are very proud of you!
At the County & District Shows, the MacNair's 4-H Show Team took home ribbons in many extremely competitive divisions, some with over 50 entries. Your practice, hard work, skill and dedication really paid off.
Thank you, parents and coaches, for everything you do (and also to our wonderful horses.)

Riding School Registration It's that time again!
Hard to believe summer is starting to wind down, but that means registration for fall riding lessons is gearing up.
As always, we do our best to accommodate everyone's busy schedules and hope we are on your calendar this year.
Please contact the office for information. phone: 919-851-1118 email
We are looking forward to seeing you!

Junior Invitational II Who knew education could be fun?
Riders at the July Junior Invitational got to experience horses, horses and more horses during their week at MacNair's. Ask any of them and they will be able to tell you what sort of build a horse should have to be a hunter, how to get the most from their horse while approaching a jump, and what three-letter symbol a judge occasionally marks on his card to denote a jump that makes everyone gasp. One of the rider's mothers commented afterward, "...everything worked perfectly. The program you put together was really interesting for the girls and very educational. We appreciated your positive attitude and happy smiles." You can look at pictures from their week at our photosite. |
Barn Day There is more to horses than riding!
On Barn Day, Mattie introduced some of our riding students to aspects of horse care most people don't even know about. A lot goes into keeping horses happy and healthy.
As shown here, Makayla and Erin find a way to keep cool while doing a very important chore.

Video Evaluation Clinics
Get another set of eyes to help you ride more effectively: your own.
Jump two courses as you would at a show, and then watch your videotaped rounds with Thom Pollard (who, besides being a successful trainer and coach, has a USEF "R" rating in hunters, jumpers and equitation.) Discuss with him what happened on course and what you can do next time to help your horse more.
August 14: (hunter/equitation courses) September 11: (jumper/equitation courses) December 11: (hunter/equitation courses)
Cost is $60 - register soon to reserve your spot.
Contact the Main Office.
Overnight stabling is available for those attending the Sept. 12 NCDCTA show at MacNair's. All horses and trainers are welcome.

NCHJA Annual Horse Show
Good job, Mariel!

Mariel and Noir attended the NCHJA Annual Horse Show last month and, in a highly competitive division of 15, got consistent thirds through fifths. In other words, they were very good. Have a great time at Blowing Rock and good luck!
