Introducing the Veggie Barn
olivia and boThe Old Tobacco Shack Rebuilt
The old tobacco barn on Dover Farm has been transformed into The Veggie Barn.  Beginning on June 2, you can skip the Farmer's Market and go straight to The Veggie Barn!  The Veggie Barn is owned and operated by MacNair's long-time friend, Adryon Clay. In addition to the freshest summer vegetables, you'll also find MacCarl Eggs
Stop by and check it out!
We've Got Eggs!
The chicken population at MacNair's has grown.  Someone was moving and gave us 20 chickens. Chickens, when roosting at night, can be picked up (they are practically comatose) and moved to a new location and when they wake up the next morning they do not realize they moved.  They woke up in a new house early in May.

That means we have EGGS!
Eggs are available at the Tack Shop and the Veggie Barn.  Please bring your own container to take home the freshest eggs in Raleigh!

Dear Friends,

The month of May has been a busy show month.  Our riding students competed in their Spring School Show on Mother's Day and our 4-H team Showed at the Hunt Horse Complex at the end of the month.  It was a busy but very rewarding month.

This is the last week of group classes.  The summer group calendar starts the week of June 14.  Remember there are no make-ups for the summer sessions so only sign up for those that you can attend.  Last minute drop-ins are available.

We still have some openings for summer camp - particularly in July.  Check our website for the applications. Lastly,
we hope to have registration materials for the 2010/2011 Calendar Year out to you the middle of July.  As always, please feel free to call us with any questions or suggestions.

Happy Summer
Nancy

Safety Updates
It's Hot:  Be Aware and Prepared.  If you ride on a hot day, stay hydrated and be aware of the following symptoms: dizziness, cramps, nausea, weakness, thirst, and feeling like you can't catch your breath. Please tell your instructor if you need to take a break. Also, start drinking water an hour or more before you ride and bring a water bottle with you.

Limit the Peppermints--The instructors have recently learned that in some horses, peppermints can contribute to ulcers.  Realizing that no one wants a sick horse, please limit your treats to cut up apples and carrots. Remember too that all horses must be fed in their feed buckets; we do not want to encourage horses to be hand fed, it can lead to biting.

Unless You're a Panda Bear - Stay Out of the Bamboo.  The bamboo forest at the school barn may be a great maze but the Pony Paddock is constantly in use.  Rustling bamboo makes an awful noise and is unsettling to horses and riders.  So if you please....
Congratulations Seniors

Hunters & Jumpers
hunter jumps A special thanks to Bryan Rosenberg and his son for the beautiful jumps at Country Acres.  You may have noticed there are two different sets of jumps.  So--

What's the difference?

Show hunters originated as fox-hunters and their jumps look like the natural obstacles encountered while on a fox hunt: flowers, gatejumper jumpss, fences, walls, brush, etc.

Jumpers are asked to jump much more colorful obstacles unlikely to be found outside a show ring.  Jumpers are judged against the clock, and whether or not they jump 'clean'.  The design of their jumps are generally for the enjoyment of the spectators.

Thank you, Bryan, for supplying our beautiful jumps!
