Pony School goes to Country Acres to practice for the 'C' Show
 | The Alpha Mare Reports,
It's official -- Show Season is in Full Swing.
In April alone, MacNair's hosted 3 major shows: A NC Dressage and Combined Training Association (NCDCTA), a NC Hunter Jumper Association "C" show (NCHJA) and an Eastern Hunter Show (EHA). Each of these events resulted in guests from other farms trailering in, boarding overnight and altering the normal routine of the farm. We were proud to have a record number of MacNair riders participating -- and bringing home the ribbons. We are also grateful for the support we received from our clients and equine friends. |

NCHJA "C" Show MacNair's Riders Show Up In Force
The jumps and the farm looked beautiful and the weather could not have been more perfect for the NCHJA show at MacNair's held A pril 11th. There were about 379 class entries. The busiest division, Schooling Hunters, had 16 competitors. Ribbons were hard to come by and well-earned. Many of MacNair's own riders showed. We know how hard you all worked to have your mount and yourself ready to be your best. You all not only looked the part of show riders but displayed good riding skills and good sportsmanship. The staff is very proud of you. Congratulations to our riders: Laura Barkley, Sarah Bass, Haley Bohn, Courtney Bonini, Sarah Briggs, Caitlyn Bullock, Charlotte Burch, Caity Caggia, Cheri Caggia, Mary Copeland Cain, Jenna Cameron, Mariel Coughlin, Margaret Dixon, Haley Eder, Mackenzie Hudson, Ruth Huggins, Alycia Love, Roess Makgill, Lila Miller, Mackenzie Mims, Alex Moylan, Erin Obremski, Alexis Otway, Miranda Parker, Kyler Peterson, Louise Price, Samantha Redwine, Emma Richardson, Megan Rosenberg, Emilia Schwerbrock, Lydia Seifert, Sarah Seirfert, Emma Shaughnessy, Jessica Slangal, Taylor Steinmeyer, Christina Stone, Carly Toombs, Jackie Toombs, Ali Weaver, Caroline Weaver, Samantha Wine.
In addition to ribbons, M & M Tack Shop generously gave gift certificates to division champions. Our next NCHJA "C" Show will be October 24th. Please put us on your calendar! Photos of the Show are posted at: www.macnairscountryacres.shutterfly.com |

Riding School Show May 9th
If your child wants to show, please talk to your instructor about classes that may be available at your child's level. We can help you decide what's right for your rider. This show is limited to current MacNair's Riding School students. |
EHA Stiff Competition
The Eastern Hunter Association Horse Show lived up to it's reputation -- the competition is tougher than the "C" Shows according to Martina and Julie. MacNair's students were out in force and showed exceptionally well.
Our riders included: Courtney Bonini, Charlotte Burch, Caity Caggia, Cheri Caggia, Mary-Copeland Cain, Mariel Coughlin, Haley Eder, Katie Elks, Ruth Huggins, Roess Makgill, Lila Miller, Mackenzie Mims, Erin Obremski, Miranda Parker, Samantha Redwine, Emma Richardson, Meagan Rosenberg, Katherine Rouillard, Taylor Steinmeyer, Christina Stone, Carly Toombs, Julia Washburn, Samantha Wine
Congratulations ladies.

A Message from Federal
Dear Miss Caroline,It is true! The grass is greener in that field. Not to mention, that's where the cute filly grazes. We'd prefer to spend our summer days in the same field. How can we make that happen? Thanks for sending your friends our way. We've had a wonderful welcome. It's really very nice here. More fun to come. Your Foals, Federal (and Fairway too) |
Safety Reminders
It's spring and time to remind everyone of a few basics. The instructors spend a few minutes with their students going over safety issues, but it seems prudent to remind parents to:
SLOW DOWN. We don't want anyone hurt or even spooked. Remember that, while driving on the farm, you should be alert for horses, people of all sizes, dogs, cats and wildlife. Please don't let your tire squish the turtles.
Always Park in the Parking Lots. The only people who should ever drive past the office at the school barn are those who board at the foal barn or pasture barn. And please don't block the entrance to the top barn.
Never leave your car running. Seems fairly obvious.
Pay Attention. We've all made great friends this year (parents too!) Hanging out in the barn just comes natural. But we still have young riders and while in command in the saddle they are reluctant to ask mothers to move out of the aisle.

NCDCTA Shows March 28 & April 18

April 18: Courtney Bonini, Haley Bohn, Anne Cain, Mackenzie Mims, Taylor Steinmeyer, and Nicki Stephenson Thanks to all who came. We hope you enjoyed showing here. Detail results are available on our website or by using the link: Show Results Other NCDCTA Shows at MacNair's Country Acres: June 20, August 8, September 12, October 10, and November 21

IHSA News
Alex Vernon - 4th at Zones
With the help of Alex Vernon, the Wolfpack
Equestrian Hunt Seat team can now proudly boast the 4th place intermediate rider in
IHSA Zone 4, the largest Hunt Seat Zone in IHSA. She was in respectable
company; the three riders ahead of her were from some of the most competitive private horse colleges and universities on the east
coast (Hollins, Virginia Tech, and UVA.)
We are proud of the team! It was a very good year.

In the Judge's Box Getting the Inside Track
Our series of clinics on judging hunters gave participants a much better understanding of their sport.
A horse-show dad commented that, "with no equine background, it was very helpful for me to get an overview of what exactly the judges are looking at/for."
The clinics broke down the mechanics of the horse's jumping effort, then combined that with what makes for a good show round. We learned how a judge marks a card in order to remember and score the rounds. Finally, everyone judged a class on video. (Slow-motion was a very popular request.)
Laura Barkley noted, "The clinic would also be beneficial to people who are buying a new horse because they would learn what is right or wrong regarding the horse's form over jumps."

The Welcome Mat
A special welcome to Agathon and Theresa Horne. Agathon is a Dutch Warmblood. Hello Cooper, a large bay here on trial with Marion and Louise Price. |
4-H Gears Up for the County and District Shows May 22 & 23
The team is ready. We are sending 18 riders to the 4-H County Horse Show held at the Hunt Horse complex at the fairgrounds. These ladies have participated in dozens of clinics, three horse shows and spent hours practicing. Above the team is practicing Showmanship and Lila -- well Lila is braiding clovers. Good luck team. |

Summer Riding Camp at MacNair's
Camp is filling faster than last year so if you are thinking of a certain week for your child to attend, please give us a call as soon as possible.
Also, If you are interested in one of the Junior Invitational sessions (camp for hunter riders serious about showing), you should know that three of the non-mounted clinics will be very similar to the In the Judge's Box series that Thom held recently. Very informative!
Current riding school students, remember that you must be riding at E-3 level or above to participate. If you have a friend who would like to participate but doesn't ride here, let them know they are welcome! Please tell them that to attend one of the Junior Invitationals, all they need to do is schedule an evaluation ride before camp (same price as a private lesson.) Call the main office.

The Alpha Mare Reports....
In case you haven't heard, we have two wonderful additions to the farm. Popeye K is the father of both these foals.
On the left is Fairway K, a filly who hit the ground on April 9th during the Masters Golf Tournament.
On the right is Federal K, a colt was foaled on tax day - April 15th.
They are both receiving look-but-don't-touch visitors at the nursery barn.
