JconnecT off to a Great Start - 5 Successful Sessions connecting Birmingham, Kansas City and New Jersey!
On September 12, 2010, JconnecT kicked off a new learning initiative with participants in Birmingham, Kansas City and New Jersey in grades 6-10. In Parsha class, we've covered themes of man's role in creation in Parshat Bereshit. Parshat Noach explored rules that form a healthy society from ancient to modern times. Lech Lecha and Vayera analyzed the exemplary values of Avraham, as well as the struggles he faced, comparing them to some of our own.
In Contemporary Jewish Issues, we studied Judaism & Ecology, then explored Tikkun Olam - our responsibility to world improvement. We've highlighted Chessed celebrities in our different communities and in Tanach. Each week, we will highlight another Chessed Celebrity and focus on the values they teach us. This week, we 'met' Michael Freund, Chairman of the Shavei Israel Organization, who assists Jews from far flung regions of the world to rediscover their Jewish roots and often make the move to Israel. One of his constituents, a young Chinese olah named Yecholya, can trace her Jewish roots back 2700 years. She joined us on our Webex platform, inspiring us with her journey to Israel and dedication to Jewish study.
Have a look at the Chinese and Indian communities in Israel.
Sessions incorporate PowerPoint slide shows, YouTube clips, customized video content and Jewish texts . All classes are recorded and archived. If a student missed a session, please email us and we'll provide the recording. |
