HUM Profile: Mike Wenson

Volunteers are the life line to HUM's success. Without the over 400 volunteers supporting our vision, mission and services, thousands of people would not be served or helped. HUM is limited by one person and HUM is unlimited by full participation of many people.

Let me share a volunteer story about Mike Wenson. Mike was homeless for a couple of years, he volunteered for many months at HUM, he was hired as part-time staff, he was invited to join HUM full-time and he was recently promoted to Program Manager for HUM on Wheels. Mike demonstrated dedication, integrity, passion, and a work ethic second to none over the past 2 years, as a volunteer and a colleague. I am reminded of something he shared; "all I want to do is learn". Well, Mike has learned, grown and contributed at levels beyond expectation. As you know God works in many wonderful ways. Mike Wesson, as well as other volunteers, is a true example of how prayers are answered. HUM values all of our volunteer's gifts of service and care.

Who We Are & What We Do

Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) is a non-profit (501c (3)) organization whose prime mission is to prevent homelessness by providing at risk families with food and emergency assistance to help keep them in their homes and off area streets. Last year (2011), we provided over 160,000 food packages to needy/homeless families and served over 150,000 hot meals. HUM believes the three essential points needed to live a balanced life are: Food is Life, Heath is Life and Home is Life...and God Gave Life...

Thank you for your support of making a difference in the lives of people. Because...People Matter to God

HUM Mobile DeliveryOn The Move in SE Volusia

The state of economy on a local, state and national level impacts both for profit and not-for-profit business decisions. HUM's food and service distribution model is transitioning to a mobile method to deliver services to more people in SEV. The program is called HUM on Wheels. HUM has teamed with five local faith based partners in SEV to begin delivering services to people from Oak Hill to New Smyrna Beach.   This reestablished program allows for efficient delivery of services at a lower cost. The SEV will continue to be served first-time, every-time with the spirit faith and support of people in need.
