Laws of the Four Parashiyos
6. Parshas Parah (Badmidbar 19:1-22) discusses the process through which one who came into contact with a corpse was purified in the time of the Holy Temple. The process included using ashes from a parah adumah (red heifer).
In the time of the Holy Temple, it was a mitzvah to purify oneself before the festivals so one could enter the Holy Temple and partake of the sacrifices.
Parshas Parah is read during these weeks in anticipation of Pesach.
