3. One should think about the exaltedness of G-d and the lowliness of man, and remove all thoughts of the pleasures of this world from his mind.
4. One should realize that he does not deserve to have G-d fulfill his request but he should think, "who am I, that I should come and ask something from the King of Kings, if not for the great kindness with which He treats His creations?"

(23) The sefer Derech Chaim says, when a person increases his involvement in learning Torah and doing mitzvahs, he will become closer to HaShem and cling to Him, and his fear and love of Him will be set in his heart. Then when he gets up to pray, it won't be difficult at all for him to concentrate and to make requests of HaShem in the proper way.
