2 Daily Halachas
from

Our Rabbis tell us - one who studies [at least two] Halachos daily is assured a portion in Olam Haba -  the world to come (Gemorah Megilla 28)

The Vilna Gaon also said that for every word of Torah one learns one gets 613 Mitzvahs.

Therefore, we are going to learn two daily Halachas every day from Sefer Kitzur Shulchan Aruch and other sources.

Laws of Loshon Hora

This Sunday Dec. 27, 2009 is the Fast of the Tenth of Teves

The Chofetz Chaim enumerated 31 Torah Commandments which may be violated when a person speaks or listens to loshon hora.  There are 17 prohibitions and 14 positive Commandments - a total of 31 Commandments.

Prohibition number 1:  The posuk in Vayikra 19:16 says:

"You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people"

This is the prohibition dealing specifically with loshon hora and r'chilus.  Loshon hora is the term used for derogatory or damaging statements.  R'chilus is the term used for a report that someone has spoken or acted against the listener.

Both are prohibited even when true.  Just as a peddler (rochil) goes from house to house selling his wares, so too, a habitual gossip goes from person to person picking up and leaving behind tidbits of derogatory information about others.

A One Minute a Day Torah Thought !

"Shlomo HaMelech wrote in Shir Hashirim 2:9, 'He is standing behind our wall, expected to arrive any moment.'.  This is Mashiach.  We must go on with our lives and take care of our affairs.  But we must never forget that the piercing blast of the shofar heralding his arrival may be heard at any time.".

A Touch of Kindness - Story

My daughter's class was rehearsing for a school play in a building that had been made available to them a few miles away. It was right after the recent snowstorm.

At about midday, some of the girls realized that they had not brought lunch.

One girl who lived nearby called her mother and asked her to bring lunch.
Some time later, a kosher pizza shop delivered pizza and soda for 75 girls. The mother who paid for the food tried to not let anyone know that she had arranged it, but it was hard for the girls not to know.

It is one thing to remember that your child is hungry. It takes a special person to think about all the other children.
