2 Daily Halachas
from

Our Rabbis tell us - one who studies [at least two] Halachos daily is assured a portion in Olam Haba -  the world to come (Gemorah Megilla 28)

The Vilna Gaon also said that for every word of Torah one learns one gets 613 Mitzvahs.

Therefore, we are going to learn two daily Halachas every day from Sefer Kitzur Shulchan Aruch and other sources.

Laws of Chanukah

1.  The mitzvah requires that the menorah be placed higher than three tefachim above the floor and lower than 10 tefachim.  But if you placed it higher than 10 tefachim you have fulfilled your obligation.  However, if you place it higher than twenty amos (about 30 feet) you have not fulfilled your obligation, because when it is placed higher than 20 amos it is out of the range of vision.  If you live on an upper floor you may place the menorah in the window, even though it is higher than 10 tefachim from the ground.

2.  The lights should be placed in an even row: one should not be higher than the other.   Space the width of a finger should be left between the lights, so that the flames will not merge and look like a torch.  Wax candles should be seperated so they will not become heated from each other and cause the wax to melt, and become spoiled

A Torah Thought for Today

"Loving HaShem".   We must implant in our hearts a love of HaShem and the desire to do what is pleasing before him.  Just as we desire to please our parents so should we desire to please HaShem.  Also, we must defend His honor and rejoice in serving Him.
