The Books Have Arrived

Last summer COVE Alliance embarked on an adventure to collect over 23,000 books. And, an adventure it was. Many volunteers helped by cleaning up, sorting, stamping and boxing books. There were times that it felt a little overwhelming.  The books were earmarked for 13 schools in which some of COVE sponsored children are attending.

In April of this year, with the help of Bookfriends International, the books were shipped. All of that work paid off this past month. The books arrived in Mumbasa on July 20th, traveled to Kampala and on August 21st the headmasters/mistresses of the 13 schools gathered at a warehouse in Luweero to collect their boxes of books.  The books will now be in the hands of the children of Uganda.

Because many of the schools do not have any library books, it was a triumphant event. They have asked us to thank everyone who helped work on the project. COVE USA also thanks you for all you do to help our mission in Kapeeka, Uganda.

COVE Annual Election

The annual COVE Board Election will take place during the General Meeting on Wednesday, September 19th at 7 p.m. in the Father John Finnegan Center at St. Mary of Vernon in Vernon Hills, Il. This is the general meeting, which is open to all members. We encourage everyone to attend!

COVE Blog

COVE introduces their new blog.  It is a discussion/information site consisting of personal experiences, pictures and videos.

Many students from various high schools and universities have been to Uganda and have spoken about their experiences. Each one has their own personal story to tell. The all new COVE blog gives them the opportunity to share these amazing experiences with others who have also been there as well as the entire COVE community.

One student's story has already been posted. Read and see how this experience affected him and the impact his visit had on the children. Click on the Blog icon below or from the website at www.covealliance.org.

If you have a story to tell, please submit it to Carol Armstrong to get it posted.

COVE Members Travel to Uganda

On Sept. 7th, two members of COVE will leave for a 2-month trip to Uganda. While they are there they will visit the sponsored children, paint the dorm and classroom, do some planting, visit the schools that received the books, and naturally play with the students. We ask that you remember them in your prayers.

Instruments Wanted

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

Currently, COVE Uganda has a full set of African drums and a cabasa. If possible, we would like to add more instruments to their collection. So dust off your discarded trumpet, flute, or other small instrument and we can find a place for them to sing their notes!

If you would like to consider donating an instrument, please contact Carol Armstrong.

Volunteers Needed

Our annual fundraiser has passed, but we are always looking for volunteers. Many hands and talents are needed. Special skills are not required - just a willingness to help the children of Uganda!
