You all know what COVE is about. COVE is a group of people just like you. They are your friends, neighbors and fellow SMV parishioners, who came together in 2005 to help a seminarian, Hilary Muheenzengango. He grew up in Kapeeka, and had a dream to build a school and healthcare center in his homeland, which would serve the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the children and their community.
As a result, COVE Alliance was founded and it has become a growing network of caring gifted people reaching out to the orphaned and disadvantaged children in Uganda.
Construction began in 2007. We currently have a health care center, primary school, kitchen, staff housing & a dormitory. Much of this construction has been possible due to your generosity. Local schools and organizations have contributed their inspiration, knowledge and monies earned from fundraising projects to continue this mission.
Vernon Hills High School was instrumental in building the first primary school building that houses grade 1 and 2. The dormitory and the second school building was constructed with other funds. Highland Middle School is fundraising for a piggery that will help provide protein in the children's diets & allow them to sell the piglets to buy other food needs. University of Illinois and Northwestern colleges have had a team of students visit the COVE Center and provide evaluation and instruction to continue to sustain the environment both for the COVE facilities and the surrounding community.
All of this has taken place in just 7 years. Future projects include starting the Vocational School that will teach such trades as masonry, auto mechanics, woodworking, agriculture, hairdressing, weaving and hotel management and catering. This is designed to provide the older students a skill that will sustain themselves and their families in the future.
There is an Urgent Need. Because all St Jerome COVE sponsored children must board at the school they have outgrown the dormitory. In order to house all students, an unused classroom is being used as a temporary dorm for the girls (there are more girls than boys) and the boy's dorm is now a classroom. Raising $40,000 to build another dorm is now COVE'S most urgent need.
So when you ask WHAT IS COVE, the answer is PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU! - Dynamic people who are able to extend themselves to those less fortunate.
Please consider becoming a part of this endeavor to help bring inspiration and opportunity to people who are trying to build better lives.

Leonsia was a shy and distant child, when she was first sponsored by Darlene Frantonius. After she came to the COVE Campus she began, little by little, to blossom. In 2011 when the delegates arrived in Uganda, Darlene was surprised by Leonsia running up to her with a welcoming smile. That was the day that Darlene's prayers were answered. Later, when Leonsia and Specioza asked Darlene if they could wash her clothes she was inspired. Not because she wanted them to wash her clothes but because they wanted to do that for her.
We have just celebrated Easter and are reminded how we should learn to serve others, including washing their feet. At such a young age these children know how to serve, spontaneously, without being asked.
Each day is a celebration when you bond with your sponsored child. Many of us cannot travel to Uganda and that is where letters, family pictures and encouragement comes into the recipe. They want you to be part of their lives by sharing your life with them.
