Christmas Party In Uganda

The Christmas Party in Uganda this year was a "working" party.  All the staff members and the Little Servants of the Sacred Heart Sisters were involved in teaching classes.  The classes were on health care, disease prevention, personal hygiene, Christian virtues and values, self-awareness, the value of education and career guidance.  It may not seem like much of a party, but teaching and learning are always a part of every celebration.  There was also singing, dancing, group sports and a time for short plays and poems.

The children gather for a group picture.

Those who have been to Uganda have seen the joy in the children's faces when they come together as a community. They are a family. There was even more cause for celebration when some of the children made their 1st Communion at Sunday mass.

This year the children were given covered mattresses. As you can see from the picture, even the very small are able to carry their weight.

Ugandans Sad, but Hopeful

Ugandans sadUgandans are 11 saddest in the world, according to findings of research carried out by a London-based institute. The Legatum Institute's Prosperity Index for 2011, which relies on 2010 survey data and is touted as "an inquiry into global wealth and wellbeing', ranked Uganda as 100th out of 110 countries with an average satisfaction of 4.2 out of 10.

The survey rated a number of aspects of life in several countries like the economy, entrepreneurship, and opportunity, governance, education, health, safety and security, personal freedom and social capital.

The article goes on to say that "Despite those challenges, the report says subjective assessment of entrepreneurial opportunities in Uganda were positive, with over three-quarters of the people believing that the area they live in is a good place to start a business."

The thought is that if you work hard you will get ahead.

A student entrepreneur was part of the delegation that went to Uganda this last summer. He will be traveling with six of his friends back to Uganda this spring.

COVE Alliance has made an impact on the development in the Kapeeka area.

Silent Auction to be Held at Annual Fundraiser
silent auction
Exciting Silent Auction items will be one of the highlights of the COVE Alliance 7th Annual Fundraiser on Friday, June 22, 2012 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Mundelein, Illinois.  As a friend of COVE, we hope that you will consider donating to this worthy event.  Your donation would be greatly appreciated!

You can donate gift certificates to your favorite restaurant or store, as well as tickets to a sporting event or a performance.  If you feel creative, you can put together a fun theme basket.  Any item you think people would like to take home with them can spark an enthusiastic "bidding war" and go a long way to raising much needed funds.

Your contribution will be acknowledged in our program book as well as on our website.  More importantly, your donation will directly impact the orphaned and vulnerable children served by COVE Alliance. Proceeds from the auction will support the education and healthcare programs at the COVE Center in rural Uganda, Africa. COVE Uganda's school, dormitory, health clinic and sponsorship programs are made possible through generous donors like you.

If you can donate an item for the auction, please click here to obtain our Auction Donation Form, which helps us keep track of your donation.

We thank you so much for considering our request, and hope you
can join us on June 22nd.

Sincerely,

The COVE Alliance Fund-raising Team
