COVE Annual Appeal In "Full Gear"
This year, as we welcomed eighteen new volunteers to the St. Jerome COVE Campus, they were inspired by this life altering experience. Classrooms were painted, a swing set was built, soccer uniforms were delivered, the basketball court is under construction, and classes on infection control were held for the children. The community was also engaged when a representative from the University of Illinois presented a successful one-day seminar on marketplace training in agriculture and small business to community leaders, and COVE parents/ guardians.
Sarah, a Peace Corps volunteer, commented on how happy the children seemed to be. During the interviews with the children, it was confirmed. The children love the beauty of their new environment, they love their teachers, they love the opportunity to learn and above all they have a career goal in mind. There is hope for the future.
We are committed to continuing this journey of breaking the cycle of poverty and allowing the children to be placed in a position to sustain themselves and their families in the future.
Please take time to look through the COVE brochure or go to www.covealliance.org for more information about our accomplishments, our future, and how you can truly impact the lives of those less fortunate. Your financial donation and continued support can help accomplish these goals and we hope you will help see this vision come to life.
Thank you for your continued support!

Upcoming Changes in Sponsorship A Word from Helen Haegerich
Dear Sponsors:
After 6 years as Chair of our Sponsorship Program I am passing on the coordination of this program to another member of COVE Alliance, Kathy Brosmith. Over the past 6 years I have had the privilege of corresponding with all of you generous people and have experienced great pleasure seeing the disadvantaged children of Uganda receiving the support needed to make a difference in their current and future lives thanks to your generosity. I will remain on the Board of Directors and will continue to volunteer in other areas of need with COVE Alliance.
As a sponsor myself I have been rewarded by seeing the educational growth of our child, Christine Nakitende who my husband and I have sponsored since 2006. When we first received letters from Christine she needed assistance in writing her letters and could barely write the alphabet. Her first letter had only a few alphabets, some backwards and somewhat difficult to decipher but then a day came when her letter arrived and my daughter and I were reading it together and there it was, the alphabet printed by her from A to Z! We were so proud and happy to see the progress she continues to make.
Below is the first letter sent from Christine, written with assistance:

Dear Helen and family,
How are you my beloved sponsor. At school I study alphabate. ABCDEF.
Greetings from Christine and her family. Because she is in school, now she is able to write some english words and in future she will be able to write a full letter to you. This is the last term and by the end of this year, Christine will sit for her end of year exams that will lead her to get promoted to another class next year.
Lots of love from,
Christine
The following is more recent letter written by Christine without assistance:
Dear Helen,
Thank you for my gift, which included a card. My health has been so good. Am already back to school at St. Jerome cove primary school in grade two and English is my best subject. In future I want to be a nurse. it me pray daughters weeding.
Greetings from my family.
Yours in love,
Christine Nakitende
Christine is a darling little girl, as you can see from her pictures and I am always impressed with how happy she is and how well she is doing in school. In the picture of her in the pink dress take notice of the pink socks she has on - I sent her some socks and she was so happy that she posed for a picture while wearing them so we could see how happy she was to receive them. Christine does well in school at the St. Jerome Center and always

mentions how grateful she is to have the opportunity to succeed in her young life. She would like to become a nurse.
Our Executive Director Fr. Hilary touched our hearts when we came to the United States with his hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow for the children and people of Uganda and continues to touch our hearts with his devotion to helping the children make a better lives for themselves in the future. What a blessing it is to be able to support his cause in various ways.
And so, as of January 1, 2012 Kathy Brosmith will work with all of you as Chair of our Sponsorship Program. She is anxious to begin and feels blessed to have been a member of COVE Alliance since 2006. I am sure she will provide you with the utmost respect and cooperation you deserve. Please watch for changes in contact information and mailing in your renewal fees after December 3. Thank you for allowing me to serve you. May our Lord bless you for all your support of this worthy cause. This is one charitable organization where you can be assured that all monies donated go directly to COVE Uganda, all officers and board members are volunteers.
