Monthly Newsletter

March 2011

Greetings!

It is already March and preparations are aglow since Fr. Hilary has announced he will travel to the USA and arrive March 20. "Coming to the USA is a time of joy and gives me the opportunity to visit with all the COVE Alliance founding members, donors and many friends. It is a time when I am in awe of the incredible energy and efforts COVE members have provided to support the children of Uganda," states Fr Hilary.  There are many ways in which COVE supporters can prepare for his visit.  Invite your friends to a gathering to hear him speak of all the progress that COVE has achieved. Save a table at the Seeds of Hope fundraiser that is planned for April 9th. Read about how sponsoring a child has affected both the child and their sponsor. Learn more about these and other opportunities in this month's newsletter.

'Then and Now' of Sponsored Children
Patrick Mwanira
With a Letter from Patrick's Sponsors Andrew and Sally Mosko

When COVE Alliance was formed in our parish five years ago, we were asked if we would like to sponsor a child.  We were not really sure what this commitment was going to entail for us...and then we received our first photo of 12 year old Patrick Mwanira from the Village of Naiingu in Uganda and we instantly felt a connection.  This was not just any child, this was our child now.  Patrick had lost both parents and was living with his neighbors, the Lukwago's, and attending Lwetuunga primary school at that time.

We started to write letters to Patrick and were delighted when we received letters back from him.  Patrick is thankful for the simplest of things and so grateful that our support has enabled him to continue his schooling.  We are pleased that he is such a diligent student and Is doing so well with his studies.  Uganda needs smart, educated young men and women like him with strong values for its future.

We love to compare the photos we receive of Patrick from year

to year.  We not only see the physical changes in him but the confidence and happiness in his smile of someone who feels loved and supported.  It is hard to believe that Patrick will be 17 years old this August 2.  In 2010, he sent the following letter to his sponsor:

 Dear Andrew and Sally Mosko,

Thank you so much for the gifts you sent me.  My family and I are fine.  I am in the holiday which will end on February 1st, 2010.  I was promoted to primary five.  It is raining and I help my family in the garden planting potatoes.  I like receiving the nice letters you send to me.

Send greetings to your family.

With love,
Mwanira Patrick

To know that our sponsorship can have such a significant impact on Patrick and Uganda's future is truly humbling.

Can You Host Fr. Hilary?

Fr H Auction Prep

Father Hilary, COVE's Executive Director, will visit the US this Spring. While here, he will be eager to connect with you and share news about COVE Uganda.

Consider hosting a coffee or tea during Fr. Hilary's visit so that your friends and neighbors can meet him, hear inspiring stories and be updated on COVE's accomplishments.

Appeal from Fr. Hilary:

"These children have nowhere to go for help of any kind: physical, psychological or spiritual.  In my ministry as a priest, I feel that caring for the orphaned children of Kasana-Luweero is an urgent mission that I have been called to do.  COVE Alliance is made up of people who are interested in merging efforts with me to carry on this moral task of saving the lives of the many children who are still surviving."
