Ferista Nalubega
Ferista is a 13-year old girl from the village of Kabogwe. Her father Michael always wanted to have children but he did not succeed until he was 78 years old, when God 'heard' his prayers and he was blessed with three children. Ferista, the second-born, helps with preparing meals, digging and fetching water at the well. An asset to her family because she knows how to ride a bicycle, Ferista carries her father on a bicycle to the COVE health unit for his treatment. On weekends and school holidays, Ferista and her two sisters prepare local brew to help generate income for the family.
Ferista says that since she was adopted into the sponsorship program in 2007 by her beloved sponsor Mary Ann Ulz, COVE has changed her life. Ferista likes playing netball, singing and riding a bicycle. When she completes her studies, Ferista wants to become a nurse and make money.

COVE Participates In National Louis Service Day
In early February, COVE members attended the National Louis Community Service Day in downtown Chicago. The event was held to bring Chicago area organizations in touch with students and other citizens seeking volunteer opportunities.
COVE joined a wide variety of groups who brought unique displays to showcase their causes.Illinois State Troopers, Art for Life and Chicago Red Cross were just a few of the many participating organizations.
The exposition began with presentations given by all the organization leaders. When all of the talks were complete, attendees were invited to visit with the organizations' representatives in a casual yet informational setting.
"It was a surprisingly friendly atmosphere" said Tom O'Donnell, who attended the event as a representative of COVE. "I've been to a few career expos, and there always seems to be a sense of competition among those who attend and also among the representing companies. But I didn't get that impression at the Service Expo... In fact, most representatives seemed to go out of their way to network with other organizations."
In all, the productive day helped to establish COVE's presence in the city and allowed COVE members to meet and learn from people involved in fellow organizations. | |

Tom O'Donnell
In March 2009, Tom O'Donnell joined COVE's newly formed marketing communications team. In the past year he has helped that team to generate new ideas and means for informing the community about COVE. "As a younger guy who moved to this area out of college, I was looking for a way to get involved with the community and contribute to a cause I believe in." COVE fit that description well for Tom, and so he joined.
"One thing I really like about COVE is that it welcomes and even encourages participation from people of all ages. In our meetings, members range from high school students to volunteers who have retired from the workforce. As one of the younger guys, I'm confident that there are lots of other teens and 20-something's out there to whom COVE would appeal for the same reasons. As a contributor to COVE marketing, it is definitely an underlying goal of mine to seek out and reach those people for COVE." Tom appreciates all the great people he has met and been privileged to work with through COVE Alliance. |
Will You Host Fr. Hilary?
Father Hilary, COVE's Executive Director, will visit the US this March 24 - April 24. While here, he will be eager to connect with you and share news about COVE Uganda.
Consider hosting a coffee or tea during Fr. Hilary's visit so that your friends and neighbors can meet him, hear inspiring stories and be updated on COVE's accomplishments.
