Bishop Paul Visits COVE U.S.
In September, Bishop Paul Ssemogerere visited COVE Alliance US on a mission of friendship and mutual learning.
Bishop Paul, who has known Executive Director Fr. Hilary Muheezangango for most of Hilary's life, became Bishop of Kasana-Luweero Diocese in June 2008. Bishop Paul's Diocese is home to the St. Jerome COVE Center. His pastoral priorities include a commitment to educating and empowering his people, and he hopes that the vocational school that COVE is building will become an educational model for the Diocese.
The location of the St. Jerome COVE Center right next to an active parish in Kapeeka supports COVE's positive relationship with the Diocese. It also helps COVE to establish legitimacy and vitality in the eyes of locals. The relationship with the Diocese also helps assure accountability to COVE Alliance's generous donors. Bishop Paul concluded his visit by expressing his continued gratitude for COVE's efforts to support a shared mission in Uganda.

Emergency Vehicle Arrives at Kapeeka
Recently, the Mary Alphonse Bradley Fund awarded COVE $15,000 to purchase an emergency vehicle for the Kapeeka Township. The emergency vehicle, pictured at right, will be used primarily to transport patients with critical medical needs from the health clinic to a full service hospital in Nagaseke. Previously, there was no adequate means for transporting urgent care patients. Now mothers experiencing childbirth complications, a common problem in the area, will have a reduced risk of miscarriage because they can get from the clinic to a hospital that is better equipped for high-risk deliveries. Children with urgent complications due to disease or malnutrition can now get to the hospital to seek the medical attention they need. This great asset to the community is already saving lives.

A Kapeeka Christmas Party
On December 19, 2009, sponsored children and their families will gather together at the St. Jerome COVE Center to enjoy a festive Christmas Party. After a meal and live entertainment, Father Christmas (the Ugandan "Santa Claus") will bring a locally-purchased 3-inch mattress for each of the 156 children that COVE serves. The simple gift of a mattress will provide these children with a more comfortable, restful sleep that will allow them to focus carefully in school. Plans for the 2009 Christmas Party are now underway. You can help the children have a memorable party and Merry Christmas by donating toward the day's food, decorations, events, and the Christmas mattresses. To contribute, please send a check to COVE Alliance, c/o Don Dumich, Treasurer, 1804 Bishops Way, Mundelein, IL 60060. To assure that your gift arrives in time for the party, please send your donation by December 1. As always, thank you for caring about the kids!
