This Week's Topic:

This week is Rolling River Gives Back week at camp.  What are different ways camp can give back to the community?  What have you done this summer to give back?  How can you help others in camp and in your community?  What are some ideas to give back that we can do in the future?

Brookwood Camps
Recap from the 3rd and 4th grade overnight trip

The Brookwood Camps trip was a great success.  Even though it rained on the first day everyone was able to continue activities in the new indoor arena with the boys playing basketball and the girls doing gymnastics and tumbling. The girls were then able to use the dance and aerobics center while the boys played flag football.  In the evening, everyone went to the canteen with the new big screen TVs and got treats, watched ESPN Sportscenter, and played games in the arcade.  On day two the weather was perfect and we were able to use the lakefronts for boating, fishing, and swimming.  We also had the pool party that was postponed from night one.

Due to our relationship with RRDC, Brookwood Camps is offering special pricing to all Rolling River campers who attended the overnight.

The regular price for full season is $8800(all inclusive) and the Rolling River price is $7800.

For either of our 3 and a half week sessions the regular price is $4950 and the special Rolling River price is $4400.   A special thanks to Jim and his staff for making this one of the best overnights we have had with Rolling River.

Thanks to everyone at

Rolling River Day Camp!

Summer 2012 Week 6

recapWeek 6 Recap:

Off-Campus Trips, Hawaiian Water Carnival, Theater Arts Shows...

and of course, COLOR WAR!!!!

Week 6 started out as usual with amazing activities and events.  Groups in all divisions went on off-campus trips (see divisional updates below for recaps of the trips), the 3rd and 4th grade performed in fantastic theater arts productions and all groups enjoyed their favorite camp activities like swimming, banana boating and soccer.  Campers beat the "island heat" on Friday at our incredible Hawaiian Water Carnival which featured many water slides, rides and one of our favorites- the foam pit!  But it's our 20th Anniversary "Sail-A-Bration"...of course we had more surprises up our sleeves!

The surprises started at the authentic Hawaiian Luau.  While the fire dancer performed, campers heard cheers and chants in the distance.  It could only mean one thing- it was time for COLOR WAR!  The leaders of the WHITE MYRTLES and BLUE RAYS ran out into the show to officially kick off Color War 2012 in a surprise break!

As the teams broke into their first meetings, they were surprised again with the announcement that this year's Color War Sing will be featured on TLC's hit show "Cake Boss"! Now you know that snack next Friday will be the best ever...we can't wait to see that cake!  Click HERE to learn more about next Friday's special event.

Once again, enrollment for Camp 2013 is open and you can save up to $400 off the lowest prices of the year by enrolling before August 31.   See below to learn about how you can lock in the lowest rates of the season.

cakebossRolling River is Starring in an Episode of TLC's "Cake Boss"!

  cake boss

Next Friday, August 10, the cast and producers of TLC's hit show, "Cake Boss" will be at Rolling River and ready to participate in Color War (as well as present us with a special 20th anniversary cake to end Color War week)!  Cake Boss is a reality television series, airing on the cable television network TLC. Set at Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey, the show mainly follows Buddy Valastro and his family as they operate their business, with a focus on how they make their cakes, along with family gatherings and celebrations.  There have been over 100 episodes since 2009 and the show averages over 1.5 million viewers worldwide.
Rolling River's episode will air in late fall and we will notify campers and staff of the air date once we receive it.

This is an unbelievable opportunity and experience for Rolling River and we are excited to share this with your children.  Please note that due to the popularity and publicity of this show, all campers and staff are required to complete a waiver form in order to be filmed.  Waiver forms were sent home with campers on Friday.  If you would like your child to participate in next Friday's taping, please complete the waiver form and drop it off at the Main Office or send in via bus mail.  Again, your child will NOT legally be able to be filmed without the signed waiver on hand.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Ali at alison@rollingriver.com or Marissa at marissa@rollingriver.com.  We are looking forward to an amazing day next Friday!

   skipperSkipper Scoop

Jill Bloom, Skipper Supervisor

It's so wonderful to walk around Rolling River Day Camp and "sea" all the Skipper's smiling faces!  From swimming to boating to arts & crafts, we are all having a great time.  By now you've all received some awesome projects made with love in Specialty Cove.  Ask your Skippers about what they "cooked" in Cooking and what animals they visited in Nature.  Find out what puppet show they saw in Puppetry and what sport they learned on Skipper Field.  They have been so busy!!!

The Kindergartners went on a special trip to Once Upon A Sundae.  We listened to a story, made a craft and then enjoyed delicious ice cream sundaes with all the toppings!  It was "YUM-TASTIC"!

We were whisked off to Hawaii as Rolling River was transformed into a tropical paradise.  Everyone was greeted at the door with a lei and the Skippers were taught a hula dance called Pearly Shells at lineup. We had a special Hawaiian Water Carnival which was amazing!  Once again, the basketball courts and fields were filled with lots of inflatable water activities and WOW, did we have a BALL!!!  Once the rides were deflated, we were invited to a special Luau show.  We learned how to hula and watched a traditional Hawaiian dance show.  A special frozen treat topped off the afternoon as the week came to an end.

Next week is sure to be filled with more spectacular season..."SEA" you then!

Chrissy Bruno, Navigator Supervisor

The Navigators had another great week down at the Riva!  On Tuesday, the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders went fishing on the Miss Freeport V.  We spent the day reeling up many fish including fluke, sea robins and sea bass.  Thursday's trip to Mountain Creek is always a hit with us!  We loved all of the new water rides that we got to go on and of course all of the "old" ones too.  We sure were shocked by the surprise Color War break on Friday!  We wish the Blue Rays and White Myrtles the best of luck as Color War begins next week!  On Tuesday, the entire division will be off to Wantagh Park to participate in Color War activities, BBQ, and enjoy the pool.

A reminder to all families- check your email every Friday for trip information for next week's trips.  As always, if you have any question, please feel free to email me at chrissy@rollingriver.com.
