Summer 2012 Week 3

recapThis Spirit Week Will Go Down in

Rolling River History!

  Trevor Jackson

WOW...we promised you a "wow" summer of surprises for our 20th Anniversary "Sail-A-Bration" and we definitely delivered during Spirit Week!! On Tuesday the camp buzzed with overwhelming excitement when the Camplified 2012 Tour rocked the house with two up-and-coming tween stars; Trevor Jackson from Disney's #1 movie star from "Let It Shine" and singer/songwriter, Karlee Roberts. Both artists interacted with our campers during camp activities before presenting an exclusive high energy concert. Afterward, campers were treated to a "Meet & Greet" autograph signing with both artists.

On Wednesday, in addition to Picture Day, the Islander Ice Tour rolled on campus! They brought rides, games, Sparky (the mascot) and star players, Matt Moulson and Josh Bailey to sign autographs and even played a game of floor hockey with the B15 boys!

Spirit week included entertaining dress-up activities such as Krazy Hair Day, Concert Shirt Day, Holiday Day and culminated with Song & Plaque Day! We can't forget to mention that in the middle of all the fun, the Mariners and Navigators hosted their Parent Nights!  We are looking forward to a fun Health and Wellness Week next week.  See the divisional schedules below to learn what your camper will be participating in for Health & Wellness Week.

Jill Bloom, Skipper Supervisor

The Skippers were full of spirit this week as Rolling River celebrated Spirit Week!  Krazy hair was everywhere on Monday!  Tuesday brought out the music fans as we all wore our concert tees and rocked out with Karlee Roberts and Trevor Jackson.  It was so cool spending the day with a Disney star!  We all smiled pretty for pictures on Wednesday and enjoyed a special visit with Matt Moulson and Josh Bailey of the New York Islanders.  We jumped in the bounce houses and played with Sparky, their mascot.  The creativity was abundant on Thursday as we dressed up as our favorite holidays.   We saw Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, even Halloween!  Friday wrapped up this amazing week with Song and Plaque Day!  The Skippers and their counselors worked so hard all week learning and practicing their group songs and making their plaques.  Each group performed and presented for the whole division!   Everyone did a great job!  We can't wait to "sea" you next week where we will be learning about good health and wellness.

 navigatorsNavigator Notes

Chrissy Bruno, Navigator Supervisor

  moulson

The Navigators had another fun and exciting week down at the RIVA!  We saw Trevor Jackson in concert and the NY Islanders Matt Moulson and Josh Bailey made an appearance at camp.  We also went to Boomers and on a mystery trip to Fun Fuzion in New Roc City.  We have had such a fun-filled week!

All of the Navigator groups were busy practicing their songs and dances for our annual Song & Plaque Day.  We could hear their RRDC spirit all throughout camp.  It was also great to see so many Navigator families this week at Parent Night!  Thank you to all who came out to camp and participated in activities with our campers.

A detailed trip itinerary went home for all of those campers who are signed up for the Lake George Overnight next week.  Please make sure to read it over so you know what to pack for our exciting voyage.  A reminder to all families- check your email every Friday for trip information for next week's trips.  As always, if you have any question, please feel free to email me at chrissy@rollingriver.com.

Melanie & Matt, CIT Counselors

The CITs had a fantastic week filled with lots of special activities!!!  Our head counselors and supervisors have given us many complements about how well the CITs are doing in their placements.  They had a great time during Camplified and loved seeing the awesome concert with their campers!  Meeting the NY Islanders was the highlight of the week for many of them on Wednesday!  The CITs actually had 2 mystery trips this week.  First to FunFuzion with the Navigators on Thursday and then a special *surprise* excursion to bowling on Friday!  Thursday night we had a blast at our first CIT party of the summer.  We made fresh popcorn and watched the movie "Tower Heist".

What an adventurous week for the CITs!!!

We are looking forward to the next week's trips, including the Lake George overnight and Aviator Sports, and of course Carnival day!!!  Remember that CITs with camp groups are required to attend Parent Visiting Nights for their groups (see schedule below).

Have a great weekend!

Health & Wellness Week

One of the benefits of attending summer camp is to learn healthy habits by being physically active.  Next week, we will teach campers different ways to be healthy by offering age-appropriate activities.  The nursery and pre-K campers will have a visit from Dentist Ranathleticsia to learn about healthy hygiene habits.  The kindergarten through 2nd grade will journey to 5 Star Gymnastics and learn about physical fitness through sports like gymnastics.  The 3rd through 8th grade will participate in special physical fitness classes with L.E.A.R.N Fitness of Baldwin.  We can't wait to get started!

Friday, 7/20: Carnival Day

carnivalrideskyRolling River's campgrounds will be transformed into a gigantic Carnival!  Campers will be able to experience inflatable rides and slides all throughout the campus.  Make sure to send in water shoes if you have not done so already.
