Therapeutic Horsemanship provides award-winning equestrian therapy programs for people with disabilities in St. Louis, St.Charles, and Lincoln Counties and surrounding areas. Programs offered include Hippotherapy (performed by a licensed Occupational, Physical or Speech therapist) and Therapeutic Riding. The physical benefits of riding are based primarily on the movements of the horse. The horse's rhythmical gait transfers to the client the pelvic movements of a person walking: back and forth, up and down, side-to-side, and rotational. This repetitive motion helps to improve balance, coordination, strength, and muscle tone as it gently mobilizes the joints. Four sessions are offered each year, January through December. Fees range from $160 to $300 per month. Individuals over 24 months of age may participate.
