 Old BagsTM Raised Over $100,000

to Find Forever Families for

Children in Foster Care!

On Tuesday, April 26th, The Ambassadeur Ballroom at the Frontenac Hilton Hotel was packed with hundreds of women enjoying delicious hors d'oeuvres, pink martinis, and chocolates from Lake Forest Confections.  They came to bid on gorgeous bags from designers like Louis Vuitton, Ferragamo, Dolce & Gabbana, Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Fendi, Valentino, Prada, Moschino, Cole Haan, Coach, and so many more!

In addition to the great handbags, jewelry was added to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of Old Bags.  There were beautiful pearl necklaces, diamond earrings, a Tiffany necklace, a handcrafted silver and turquoise pendant, several unique bracelets, and jewelry from Silpada, Lia Sophia, and Aura Stella.

Also new this year was our VIP Sneak Peek.  Sponsors and their guests were invited to arrive at 5:30 p.m. to enjoy their own special appetizers and a glass of champagne while they scoped out the different sections.  They each received a "dance card" to note which bags they planned to take home and a pewter purse hanger as a memento.

Adam Goldberg, Offensive Lineman for the St. Louis Rams, served as the emcee.

Special guests included Adam Goldberg of the St. Louis Rams, who served as the emcee of the evening.  Joining Adam on the stage were Jason Brown, Josh Brown, Jacob Bell, Ryan McKee and David Vobora - all St. Louis Rams players who really added to the fun as they "modeled" primo bags and mingled with our guests.

Old Bags is a super fun party and a success thanks to the dedication and hard work of so many.  Led by Chair, Aimée Bergan, the steering committee was:  Kristen Davis, Jackie Knolhoff, Connie Lohr, Laura Mazzarese, Nichole Mercier, Melody Noel, Jackie Olinger, Angela Pazero, and Shelley Thomas-Benke.

Click here to see all who served on the committee.  We would also thank our generous sponsors:

  OBDonors

Thanks to all who donated handbags, jewelry, and gift certificates.  Click here to see a list of the donors.  Thanks to all who served on the planning committee and volunteered that evening, donated auction items, and attended the party!

How You Are Making a Difference...

Charles (12) and Brenda (13) moved in with their grandmother, Hazel, after their parents died.  As they struggled with their loss, their behavior began spiraling out of control.  Brenda was depressed and constantly worried.  Charles was bullied at school, disruptive, and acting out.  To make matters worse, Hazel's health took a turn for the worse.  She began to lose hope for keeping her family together.

Ways You Can Help

Church Youth Group Project - Trivia for Foster Children

We'll give a PowerPoint presentation to your church youth group with 45 age-appropriate questions about movies, sports, books, etc.  The youth group hosts a kid's trivia event for their friends (ages 8-13) and collects items for teens in foster care at the trivia event.  Also, a one -hour trivia program could be hosted for just girls or just boys.  Contact Shelley for more information at 314.367.8373 x2229.

Spring Cleaning?  Please Donate Toys and Video Games!

Would you like to donate your new or like-new toys, bath & body products, and video games to children in foster care?  This is just one small way to help make a child's time in foster care as enjoyable as possible.  To donate, please contact Shelley at 314.367.8373 x2229.

Tutor Needed in Mid-St. Louis County

Several foster/adoptive children need help improving their reading skills.  The YRead program trains volunteers to tutor children twice a week, for one hour, at their local library.  If you live in central St. Louis County (e.g., Olivette, Overland, or Normandy) or in North County, and would be willing to become a volunteer tutor, there are children waiting for YOU!  Please contact Shelley at 314.367.8373 x2229.

Donate Items to the KidStore or [RE]FRESH

For [RE]FRESH, we need donations of new and gently-used clothing for teens and twenties - things you would lend your best friend!  In addition to stylish clothing, we need repurposed accessories, purses, and backpacks.  We also need schools and groups to organize clothing drives!  Click here for a flyer detailing the different ways to help at [RE]FRESH.

For the KidStore, we need donations of summer clothing and new socks and underwear.

We've Moved to Serve More Families, Better!

Our move to 1750 South Brentwood Boulevard, Suite 210, St. Louis, MO 63144 has allowed us to expand our programming to serve more families!  We will open our new retail store, [RE]FRESH: A Fashion Coalition™ soon.  Stay tuned for a grand opening date!  We are so grateful for everyone's support.  Many generous donors, both individuals and corporations, have made significant gifts to bring the Foster & Adoption Resource Center to life.

Renovations may be complete, but there is still time to leave your mark on this new center for families.  We have NAP tax credit available.  If you are planning to make a financial gift to the Coalition, we invite you to take advantage of this great opportunity.  These tax credits significantly reduce the true cost of your gift.  To see how tax credits can work for you, click here.  For additional information, please contact Dawn at 314.367.8373 x2234.
