Old Bags was a great success!
On Tuesday, April 27th, about 350 people gathered at The Living World at the St. Louis Zoo. Greeted at the door with a champagne cocktail, guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres, chocolates generously provided by Lake Forest Confections, and spirited bidding on great handbags by Chanel, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade, Dior, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Coach, Tory Birch, and so many more. This year, there were bags autographed by Donatella Versace, her daughter, Allegra, Carlos Santana, and Katy Perry. Thanks to Neiman Marcus for donating the beautiful Gucci handbag and perfume for the raffle which was won by a very happy Debbie Chervitz. Malorie McCutchen picked out the winning Mystery Bag for her mom, Stacey McCutchen!
Special thanks to our sponsors, all who donated handbags, and to all our guests. Old Bags raised $90,000 to help find forever families for children. When you visit our sponsors, be sure to thank them for supporting our children.
Our heartfelt thanks to Co-chairs, Susan Block and Jackie Olinger and the entire Old Bags 2010 committee for the wonderful party they created.
We are already collecting bags for the 2011 Old Bags party. Contact Debbie at debbiegenung@foster-adopt.org or 314-367-8373 for drop off locations or if you’d like to help plan the 2011 Old Bags party.
Welcome to our new Birthday Buddy co-Coordinators!
We wish to extend a warm welcome to our three new Birthday Buddy co-Coordinators, Karen Herrington, Cathy Brown, and Sandy Schrock. These wonderful volunteers will be dedicating hours of their time to help ensure that as many foster children as possible receive gifts on their birthdays.
We bid a fond farewell to Debbie Schoemehl, the founder of the Birthday Buddy program. Debbie recently resigned as Birthday Buddy Coordinator because of a move out of St. Louis. We will be forever grateful to Debbie! Hundreds of foster children have received birthday gifts from the program, thanks to Debbie’s passion and commitment.
WANTED: Generous Children to Sponsor a Foster Child’s Birthday
Through our Birthday Buddy program, your child can donate some or all of his or her birthday presents to a foster child with an upcoming birthday. Scout troops, school classrooms and church groups are wonderful Birthday Buddies as well. For more information, visit www.foster-adopt.org/birthdaybuddy or contact Shelley Thomas-Benke at shelleythomasbenke@foster-adopt.org or (314) 367-8373.
Dressers Needed
The Coalition has helped two siblings find a permanent home with their aunt through our Extreme Recruitment® program. These teens are in need of a dresser for their bedrooms. If you have a dresser in good condition that you’d be willing to donate, please contact Dawn Milburn at (314) 367-8373.

Structural Engineer Needed
The Coalition is moving to a new office building. As part of the necessary remodeling, we will be installing two stairways, thus cutting holes through floor plates of the 2nd or 3rd floor. We are in need of a structural engineer to help our architect identify what must be done structurally and make an inspection when stairs are being installed to make sure they are being erected properly, etc. Although we do not have a budget to pay for the engineer, we can provide NAP tax credits equal to the amount of services donated. Please contact Melanie Scheetz for more information at (314) 367-8373 or melaniescheetz@foster-adopt.org.
