Enroll Your Child(ren) in the Birthday Buddy Program
The Birthday Buddy program helps provide birthday presents for foster children of ALL AGES!  Only foster children (not adopted) can request to be matched with a Birthday Buddy donor.  Applications are now being accepted.  For questions, please contact Debbie Schoemehl, the Birthday Buddy Coordinator, at 314.223.5723 or Shelley Thomas-Benke at 800.FOSTER.3.
 
Reading Tutor Available 
Tutors are available at University City, Brentwood or Richmond Heights library.  We have a trained Volunteer Tutor ready and excited to help a 7-12 year old foster or adoptive child improve his/her basic reading skills.  You must be willing to transport your child to and from the library two times each week.  Each tutoring session is one hour long.  If you are interested in learning more about how to participate in this wonderful program, please contact Leslie Lewis at 800.FOSTER.3 (314.367.8373) x37.

Save the Date for Happy Hour

The Junior Board teamed up with F15teen for a Happy Hour to benefit the Coalition.  Tickets are $25 in advance, or $30 at the door, which covers house liquor, house wine, domestic beer, and appetizers!  Join friends of the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition for an evening of networking, enjoying friends, and meeting new ones!  A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Coalition and their mission to find every child a place to call home.

Incontinence Children & Youth Program
Children and youth ages 4 through 20 covered by Missouri HealthNet (previously Missouri Medicaid), who have a primary or secondary diagnosis of incontinence, are eligible for free disposable diapers and pull-up underwear.  A brief enrollment form will be completed over the phone leading to an enrollment authorization sent to your child's physician. Supplies are mailed at no cost to you directly to your home.  For more information or to enroll your child, call 877.984.5050 (Toll Free) or email childmed@sbcglobal.net.
 
No Cost In-home Counseling Service
Thanks to funding from the Mental Health Board, Family Support Network has partnered with the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition to provide additional support to pre- and post-adopt families. This program expansion is specific to families living in St. Louis City or who are caring for children still under the custody of St. Louis City Family Court. Family Support Network primarily works with families who have at least one child under the age of 14 in the home.  All therapists are master's level social workers and counselors.  If you would like more information about this NO COST service, contact the Coalition's Director of Family Advocacy, Denise Kelley at 800.FOSTER.3 (314.367.8373) x25.

Exploring the Civil Rights Movement

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is right around the corner, and you can get in the spirit all month long at the Schlafly Branch of the St. Louis Public Library.  It’s as easy as attending the Monday Movie Madness series, which has devoted upcoming installments to the Civil Rights Movement.  The featured movie, The Black Press: Soldiers Without Swords, is a film that shines the spotlight on black members of the press and how their work chronicled the history of segregation from an African-American point of view.   For more information, call 314.367.4120 or visit slpl.org.

Struggle for Identity: Issues in Transracial Adoption

Struggle for Identity: Issues in Transracial Adoption is a thought-provoking film that presents a group of transracial adoptees who discuss their experiences growing up.  With brutal honesty, they delve into issues such as confronting stereotypes, fitting in with their culture of origin, and learning to define themselves in terms of race and culture. We will also screen the follow-up film, Struggle for Identity: A Conversation 10 Years Later.  Each film has a run time of 20 minutes.  After the screenings, stay for a panel discussion. Panelists include Ian Forber-Pratt, an international adoptee, and an Extreme Recruiter for the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition.
