Multicultural Festival?
March 2012?
For the past three years, Josephine Anderson has coordinated an incredible multicultural festival at Enatai to highlight the many cultures that make up our school community. In order for this festival to continue, we need a volunteer (or pair of volunteers!) to coordinate this event. If interested, please contact Joni Scalzo
joniscalzo@comcast.net. Joni will provide you with a notebook outlining the details of this event.
Thanks for your consideration.
Please contact Josephine Anderson (liudesign@aol.com) for more information or with questions about this valued event.

2012 Enatai Auction
Gifts?
Auction Procurement Idea
Got Gifts??? Gift cards that is. This year's auction team has decided to cut down on the "stuff" and
beef up on gift cards for the silent auction portion of our March 10th event.
We need your help to make this happen!
The hope is to give the people what they really want--more choices for things they love (at a great deal!) Do you know of a great place we can get a donated gift card?
- What about your favorite restaurant?
- Your pet groomer?
- Your favorite nail salon?
- Maybe you own your own business?
All you have to do is ask. Many businesses are happy to donate gift cards to promote their businesses and support their local community at the same time!
LEARN MORE:
The Auction team will be in the covered area this Friday at 2:25 with all the information you'll need to help procure gift cards. If you have questions, please contact our gift card coordinator, Liz Johnson: thejohnsons4@live.com
If you have any other auction questions, please contact one of the co-chairs:

Student Leadership Group Visits Seniors
Holiday Songs and Cookies to Share...
In December, Enatai's Student Leadership Group and their parent chaperones paid a visit to residents at the Evergreen Court Retirement Home in Bellevue. While there, the SLG spread holiday cheer while singing songs, sharing cookies and delivering colorful holiday cards to Evergreen residents. The outing met one of this year's SLG goals of sharing time with seniors in our community.

Legislative News:
Governor Chris Gregoire Shares Education Reform Plan
In December, Governor Christ Gregoire announced an education reform package that she hopes will help move our state's education system forward.
In a letter from Governor Gregoire:
These reforms are built upon the work we have done together to design a new teacher and principal evaluation system, implement more career preparation opportunities for students in "the launch year," advance school improvement reforms - especially for those schools with many struggling students, and better meet the needs of our students at the transition points of their education paths.
The package of reforms that I will present today address evaluations, assignments, the creation of the Office of Student Achievement, prioritizing time for student learning, change of school district audits, and the creation of University Laboratory Schools. The attached policy brief goes into each area in more detail. Because many of you are interested, I've also attached the final report of the Higher Education Steering Committee. The focus of our effort there was to increase the educational attainment in our state.
I know you are all uniquely feeling the impact of these economic times. We must come out of them focused and better positioned to support our schools. That's why I've asked the Legislature, and ultimately the public, to support a three year temporary increase in the sales tax. Of the $494 million a half-a-penny increase would raise, I'm proposing that $411 million of that go to education. These reforms show the public that we value improving our system as much as they do.
I appreciate the feedback you provided recently on an early draft of the reforms. I welcome and count on your participation as we move this package forward.
Sincerely,
Chris Gregoire
