Ever go on vacation and use it as an excuse to eat whatever you want? Vacations don't have to end with a five-pound weight gain and the need to work hard to get back into your exercise routine. Here are some tips for vacation fitness.

Fitness on Vacation
· If you're making a long drive, pull over once every hour to walk, stretch, and do a few exercises.
· Plan ahead and make time for fitness. Vacations provide opportunities for new activities like swimming, tennis, volleyball, horseback riding, and hiking.
· Stay in your fitness routine. If you normally exercise in the morning, get up and use the hotel's fitness center or jog on the beach.
· Pack exercise clothes like walking or running shoes, workout clothes, and a bathing suit.
· Pack a volleyball, Frisbee, tennis rackets, bicycle, helmets, snorkeling gear, or other sports gear.

Healthy Eating on Vacation
· If your hotel has a continental breakfast, stay away from the huge bagels, high-fat pastries, and donuts. Choose fresh fruits or fiber-rich cereals instead.
· When ordering at a restaurant, choose grilled or baked options instead of fried. Stop eating when you get full. Try splitting a meal with a family member.
· If your vacation spot has unique foods and treats, limit these to one per day or just have a bite. Moderation is the key.
· Drink water often. It has no calories and will keep you hydrated. Pass on the high-calorie alcoholic drinks and sodas.
· Pack portable, healthy food such as fresh fruit, granola, trail mixes, sandwiches, pretzels, string cheese, and whole grain crackers. Pack a cooler with water and 100% fruit juice.
· Go to a nearby grocery store to pick up healthy items for easy nutritious meals. This will also save money.
