Issue No. 9June 2010
Dear  ,
As we've recently concluded the academic year in May, we thought it would be a good time to introduce you to one of our UK colleagues, Kelvin Bright of the UK Physical Plant Division, who just completed his bachelor's degree through our Employee Education Program, which offers free part-time tuition to eligible staff and faculty. The Lexington Herald-Leader recently profiled Kelvin as part a series on non-traditional students. Congratulations, Kelvin!
We also want to call your attention to an upcoming UK employee-exclusive Open House at the new Chandler Hospital Emergency Department. It will be a unique opportunity for us all to get a first glimpse inside this amazing new facility.
I look forward to seeing you around campus.

Kelvin
On May 8, UK Physical Plant Division employee Kelvin Bright, 47, graduated from UK with a bachelor's degree in political science. What makes Kelvin's experience with UK's free Employee Education Program (EEP) so inspiring is not just the fact he re-started his academic career after a long hiatus, but also that he maintained his commitment to volunteering in the community and serving as a model colleague.

As his supervisor Dan Abbott explains, Kelvin has been a model employee who was initially surprised to learn, upon joining the University in 2006, about the EEP program's free tuition for staff and faculty. He definitely took advantage of the opportunity.

"Kelvin has been an outstanding colleague who is well grounded and determined, so his academic accomplishment comes as no surprise," said Dan.

Kelvin has already been promoted since joining UK and plans on continuing his career with the University. He plans to revisit the Employee Education Program in the near future to pursue a graduate degree. We hope his example will inspire others and feel sure it already has.
