Preventing Gym Injuries
By Matt Cook, PFT

Whether it is a simple strain or a busted rotator cuff, an injury causes a sudden halt to your regular fitness routine, impeding your goals of building mass or losing fat. Injuries in strength training are quite common, whether you are a beginner still trying to learn form or an experienced lifter who loves overloading. In this article, we'll discuss the most common strength training injuries as well as how to treat and prevent them.
Injury TypesTendinitis: Have you experienced shoulder pain during a shoulder press or a sharp pain in your knee during squats? That is what we normally refer to as tendinitis. It is inflammation of your tendons usually caused by overwork, a high level of uric acid, or exercise-related stress. Strain: How about that pain in the elbow after doing six grueling sets of barbell curls? This is known as a muscle strain which is frequently caused by overstretching or overusing a specific muscle in an isolation movement. Fracture: This refers to partially broken or completely broken bones. These three types of injuries are very common in strength training and could affect just about any muscle group in the body.
