Do you dread coming to the gym and doing the same old routine every day? Are you looking for a new program to make things a little more interesting? If so, circuit training may be just what you need. This method of exercise is an excellent way to burn body fat, while maintaining muscle strength and endurance.

Circuit training is a high intensity form of exercise that utilizes both strength and endurance training. Any given "circuit" consists of 6-10 exercises that encompass both large and small muscle groups throughout the entire body. Traditional forms of circuit training call for each exercise to be done for a given amount of time or a certain number of repetitions, with little or no rest between exercises. Once each exercise in the circuit is completed, you begin the first exercise again for another circuit. The idea is to be continually active, with as little rest between exercises as possible. Read more.

Wear Your Sneakers to Work Day: October 7
UK HealthCare and UK Health & Wellness are teaming up to bring you the Start! Moving campaign, which encourages more physical activity on campus. As part of this initiative, all UK employees are encouraged to wear sneakers to work Wednesday, October 7 and to get moving by walking during their break or lunch. (Employees' eligibility to wear sneakers based on location appropriate limitations and work safety restrictions. Check with your supervisor, if you have questions.)
 
Start! Moving Fall Challenge
UK Health & Wellness and UK HealthCare are proud to bring you the American Heart Association's Start! Campaign, a physical activity initiative to fight heart disease and stroke by getting people moving through workplace walking programs. UK's Fall Challenge runs from October 7 to December 18. You must register for the challenge by October 30.
 
Be sure to join us for the Start! Walktoberfest, Wednesday, October 7, at noon, outside the W.T. Young Library. There will be a group walk and prize drawings for UK employees, retirees, and their spouses or sponsored dependents who are present.  For more information and to register online for the Fall Challenge, please visit the Web site
 
2nd Sunday is October 11
Communities across Kentucky are planning to simultaneously close a roadway or plan an event from 2-6 p.m. on 2nd Sunday, October 11, so that residents can bike, walk, run, play, and participate in fun and healthy activities. Second Sunday sends a compelling message that Kentucky is serious about improving its residents' health and promoting physical activity. UK Cooperative Extension has planned events in counties across the state, including in all surrounding counties near Lexington. For more details, visit the Web site
