AEG Sports' Messick Joins World Triathlon Corporation as CEO

World Triathlon Corporation announced Tuesday that it has named Andrew Messick its new Chief Executive Officer. Messick joins WTC from AEG Sports, where he has served as president since 2007, helping especially to build up the sport of cycling through the Amgen Tour of California. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president of NBA International, where he was responsible for leading the the company's globalization efforts. He brings more than a decade of experience steering global sports and entertainment companies. More

 

Tour of Utah Signs Broadcast Deals with FSN, Root Sports

Organizers of the 2011 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah announced that the August 9-14 professional bicycle race will receive national broadcast television coverage for all six days of the event with Fox Sports Network (FSN).  The stage race, featuring some of the world's best professional teams, will also be broacast regionally on Root Sports Rocky Mountain and worldwide via a live web cast. More 

 

Star Production SARL Buys Gran Fondo USA

Star Production SARL, a Monaco based company owning the Star Events and StarTour labels, has purchased Gran Fondo USA which established the Granfondo Colnago series beginning in 2009.  "Star Events is committed to delivering high-quality sports events, accessible to all levels of competition, and we are very excited about this entrance into the American Market," says Georg Hochegger, CEO of Star Production SARL. Gran Fondo USA was founded in 2008 by Matteo Gerevini and Rob Klingensmith who launched operations in 2009 with a Gran Fondo San Diego, the first Gran Fondo in the United States. More

Shares of Active Network, Inc. began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "ACTV" last Wednesday after the company's initial public offering. Active Network, a provider of organization-based cloud computing applications, priced its initial public offering of 11 million shares at $15.00 per share. More

Road Runner Sports, Nytro Partner on Triathlon Sales

ITU Signs Agreement to Include TriStar Triathon Distances

33rd Freihofer's Run for Women Sets Entry Record

A new record was broken for the 33rd annual Freihofer's Run for Women set for this Saturday in Albany, NY. So far, 4,082 registrants have signed up for the event. That broke a record of 4,029 set in 2009. Event director George Regan expects close to 5,000 women will sign up by race day.
 

 

Atlantic City Expects Boost from New Triathlon

Atlantic City's first-ever triathlon is expected to draw 1,000 athletes plus their families, friends and other spectators, generating $700,000 for the local economy - and perhaps improving the city's image, stakeholders said Sunday.  Atlantic City Emergency Management Director Tom Foley confirmed Sunday that officials last week approved permits for the September 18 race. More  

 

Canadian Ultra Race Cancelled Over Permitting Issues

A Squamish, BC long-distance trail race that has become a fixture on the ultramarathoning circuit since its inception in 2001 won't take place this summer because of permitting issues.The STORMY (Squamish Test of Running Mettle - Yeah!) event had been scheduled for its 11th running on August 7.  Organizers expect the race to return in 2012. More

John Stanton, the president and founder of Canada's The Running Room, will be honored as the 2011 inductee into the Canadian Retail Hall of Fame, the Retail Council of Canada has announced.  He will be honored at the Excellence in Retailing Awards Dinner on June 6 in Toronto. 

 

Annie Adams has been named to the position of athlete manager for ASICS America.  She has been with ASICS since early 2010 in the team sports division where she was responsible for managing contracted volleyball, wrestling and field hockey individuals and teams. Prior to ASICS, Adams worked for Rodale Publications on Runner's World magazine.   

 

Craig Waugh has been named CEO of Triathlon New Zealand.  Waugh replaces Dave Beeche who announced in March his move to the role of CEO of Triathlon World Champs in Auckland in 2012. Waugh joins Tri NZ from Sovereign Assurance and worked previously in management with adidas and Repco.

 

Megan Tompkins, the editor of Bicycle Retailer and Industry News, is leaving the magazine to join Shimano's OEM sales team.

 

Steve Francisco has been hired by Specialized for the newly-created role of chief marketing officer, overseeing the operation of the Specialized Global Marketing Group. He comes to Specialized from Jager Di Paola Kemp Design (JDK), where he worked extensively on product, marketing and branding initiatives in the bike industry.

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for managing tasks to the Kids Run the Nation program, the Championship Event Series, the State Reps program, the Runner Friendly Community program, the National Awards, and other program duties as assigned.  The position will work under the direction of the RRCA executive director and will work closely with the membership of the organization.  This position will also assist with the promotion of RRCA programs to the membership and running community at-large. 

 

We are seeking a task-oriented, hard worker, with outstanding attention to detail.  Must be a team player that is willing to take direction and work under tight deadlines. The ideal candidate must have a bachelor's degree in marketing and communications, public relations, sports management, nonprofit management, or related degree.  The ideal candidate will also have three years of post collegiate work experience, ideally in a program-oriented, nonprofit organization. Additional qualifications include positive customer service attitude, outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and an interest in running as a sport and healthy lifestyle.
