Competitor Group's Rock 'n' Roll Series Expands to Pasadena

The Rock `n' Roll Half Marathon will come to Pasadena in 2012, flooding the streets with more than 15,000 running enthusiasts, event officials announced Wednesday. The half marathon will be the newest installment in an international running series.  While the exact race route for the February 19 event has not been disclosed, the Competitor Group plans to have runners begin their trek at the city's most famous landmark - the Rose Bowl Stadium. More

Adidas Raises 2011 Outlook After Strong 1Q

Sportswear and equipment maker adidas AG today raised its top-line outlook for 2011 after net profit jumped 25% in the first quarter, as the company's strong wholesale and retail development, as well as growth in emerging markets and North America, kept high raw materials costs in balance. Retail sales increased 22% on the year, mainly as a result of double-digit growth in comparable store sales. Detroit Marathon Signs Talmer Bank as Co-Title Sponsor

The Detroit Free Press Marathon announced this week the addition of Talmer Bank and Trust as its co-title sponsor.  Formerly First Michigan Bank, Talmer Bank and Trust is now the fifth-largest Michigan based bank, with 54 branches, more than 800 employees and $2.3 billion in assets.  "We are proud to welcome Talmer Bank and Trust as the co-title sponsor. Life Time Fitness Adds Wisconsin Cycling Event to Portfolio

Life Time Fitness has announced that the Hillfest cycling event has been added to its expanding event portfolio. The race, which will take place June 18 in Prescott, WI, was created to meet the growing interest in multi-distance cycle training rides for cyclists of all skill levels. The inaugural event features a challenging 200-kilometer course, and will also include 100- and 50-kilometer distances. With Prescott a short drive away from the Twin Cities, we are excited about bringing a great event to cyclists in the Twin Cities and Western Wisconsin," said Ken Cooper, vice president of Endurance and Athletic Events for Life Time. ICU Reaches Agreement with Framebuilders' Collective on Approval Process

The International Cycling Union (UCI) has signed an agreement with The Framebuilders' Collective (TFC) which will facilitate and reduce the costs to small manufacturers of the approval procedure for frames and forks. A small builder is defined as a manufacturer who produces frames and forks to measure. TFC is a group of professional craftspeople dedicated to the frame building trade. More 

 

Baton Rouge to Host New Louisiana Marathon in January

Baton Rouge will be the site for The Louisiana Marathon on January 15, 2012. The multi-race format includes a marathon, a half-marathon, a two- and four-person relay, a 5K and a RocketKidz Marathon.  The flat course will wind around the lakes, LSU, the revitalized downtown area, and historic and progressive neighborhoods in the heart of the state's capital. More

USA Cycling, Boy Scouts Team Up on Venture Cycling Program

USA Cycling and the Denver Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America have unveiled a new program aimed to promote cycling year round and encourage physical fitness in America's young people, Venturing Cycling. In an unprecedented partnership, the two groups will work to develop a program where each 'crew,' made of both men and women ages 14-20 years, will learn proper skills and techniques to prepare their members to participate as a team in local rides and races. Fleet Feet Carrboro to Move to Larger Location

Fleet Feet Sports Carrboro has announced a mid-July move to the 300 E. Main Street project in Carrboro.  The store is currently located in 2400 square feet in Carr Mill Mall and will more than double its space, moving into 5100 square feet in the old VisArt location next to the iconic Cat's Cradle.  The store will be the flagship for Fleet Feet Sports, which has 90 locally-owned stores nationwide. More  

 

Michigan Race Organizer Hoping Water Recedes from Race Course

Fifth Third River Bank Run officials are doing their best to ensure the current 25K course In Grand Rapids, MI isn't washed away. Because of recent heavy rains, portions of the course on Indian Mounds Drive and Veterans Memorial Drive remain under water. If those conditions don't change by this weekend, officials might be forced to reroute runners. Race director Kristen Aidif said she remains optimistic water levels will go down in time for the May 14 race. More

Minnesota Town Takes Cautious Route in Preparing for Stillwater Marathon

Stillwater Gazette 

Bayport, MN is taking the cautious route as it prepares for the Stillwater Marathon. This is the third year Bayport has collaborated with the Stillwater Marathon, but council members decided to increase the marathon's non-refundable deposit to $3,500 Monday night to ensure all of the city's costs are covered.  The council also said if the deposit and all other fees are not paid by May 13, Bayport would not participate in the marathon. More 

 

USA Cycling Seeks New Venue for 2011 Collegiate Mountain Bike Championships

USA Cycling announced last week that it is seeking a new venue for its 2011 Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships, scheduled for October 28-30. The original host for the event, the Timberline Resort in Davis, WV, was forced to step down due to some unanticipated, off-season changes to the would-be venue. More

Pat Hus, a cycling industry veteran who has held executive level positions at Cannondale Bicycle Corporation, American Bicycle Group, Titus Cycles and Easton-Bell Sports, has been hired by Interbike as the cycling trade show's managing director.  

 

Tom Raynor, CEO, Fleet Feet Inc., was inducted into the National Sporting Goods Association Hall of Fame at a ceremony this week.  Under Raynor's leadership, Fleet Feet has grown to 90 running specialty stores with over $100M in annual sales. 

 

Mike Mitchell and Tracy Paoletti have been named as senior national sales directors at ASICS America.  Mitchell will handle the West and Southwest territories, including specialty retailers nationwide, and Tracy Paoletti will handle the East and Midwest regions. Mitchell and Paoletti were both previously employed at American Sporting Goods.

 

Bill Christensen has been hired by Scott Sports as its new western regional field marketing representative.

 

Tom Sturak, a former track & field and running promotions manager at Nike and Reebok and a long-time agent, died on April 29 after a lengthy illness. More
