Quiznos Pro Challenge Changes Name; Announces TV Deal

Colorado's inaugural Quiznos Pro Challenge has a new name - the USA Pro Cycling Challenge - but the voices who will broadcast it around the world in late August will be familiar to cycling fans. Race co-chairman Shawn Hunter confirmed after a news conference Tuesday that legendary announcers Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggett will broadcast the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. The two will broadcast the race on Versus, the top cycling network in the world, August 22-27, and on NBC for the final stage, August 28. More

Pacific Sports LLC, producers of Triathlon Eugene, The Oregon Challenge, has announced sponsorship deals with Orca and Orbea. "We are happy to have Orca and Orbea as official sponsors for Triathlon Eugene," president and CEO of Pacific Sports Jack Caress said. "Having their support for the first event in Eugene will be a great way to recognize the triathlon. We have a long relationship with them and it will only serve to enhance the event." Oakland Running Festival Study Shows $3M Economic Boost

Runners and their friends pumped more than $3 million into city stores, restaurants, transit agencies and entertainment venues during the Oakland Running Festival last weekend, according to a report from the Regional Economic Studies Institute at Towson University in Maryland. The $3 million figure is based on money spent by the 7,300 runners and the friends and family they brought with them to the races, according to the report, commissioned and paid for by race organizers Corrigan Sports Enterprises. Marisol Casado, the president of the International Triathlon Union, has been appointed chair of a worldwide project to create a Global Framework for Recognition of Coaching Competence and Qualifications. The announcement was made by the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) at the 35th General Assembly last weekend in London.
Erik Forsell has joined Asics America Corporation as its new vice president of marketing communications. He will replace Gary Slayton, who will become the vice president of a new department called Emerging Businesses. The company also announced that Shannon Scott has been promoted to the position of director of marketing communications.
