Life Time Fitness Launches Leadman EPIC 250 Ultra Triathlon 

Life Time Fitness 

Life Time Fitness today announced the launched of the Leadman Triathlon Life Time EPIC 250, a new, 250-kilometer event category. The Leadman EPIC 250 ultra-distance triathlon will include a five-kilometer swim, 223-kilometer bike and 22-kilometer run with professional and age group divisions. The inaugural event will take place May 14 in Las Vegas. More

 

Colorado's Quiznos Pro Challenge Gets $10M Boost

Colorado investors Rick and Richard Schaden have announced they were investing $10 million into the Quiznos Pro Challenge bike race scheduled to traverse Colorado's high country in August. The 20-year majority shareholders of Quiznos and founders of Denver's Consumer Capital Partners said the investment beyond the sandwich company's sponsorship ensures the race will be around for a long time. More

Triathlon America Recognizes Industry Achievements

Triathlon America honored the top five most innovative products of 2010 and the top ten U.S. triathlon specialty retailers as part of the industry organization's awards ceremony Monday in La Jolla, CA.   Products from Newton Running, Shimano, Inviscid Design, Trek, and Zipp Speed Weaponry were recognized for setting new standards.  Among the top ten retailers honored were all3sports of Atlanta, Nytro Multisports of Encinitas, CA, TriSports.com of Tuscon and Triathlon LAB of Santa Monica. More

USA Cycling to Distribute $422,860 to Local Associations 

USA Cycling 

USA Cycling announced late last week that based on last year's license sales, it will distribute over $422,860 back to its 34 Local Associations (LA) as part of an ongoing effort to grow competitive cycling at the grassroots level. With the 2010 payout, USA Cycling has now delivered more than $2.5 million in direct funding to its Local Associations since the program's 2003 inception. More

 

adidas Reports Rise in 4Q Revenue 

The Oregonian

Sportswear maker adidas AG's fourth-quarter net profit shrank amid higher operating expenses even though improving sales in a healthier global economy powered a strong rise in revenue, the company said Wednesday. Adidas said it earned $9.7 million in the October-December period, down from $26 million a year earlier but still better than analysts' forecast of $5.4 million. Revenue was up 19.2 percent, climbing to $4 billion from $3.4 billion. More

 

ITU Signs Sponsorship Deal with Oakley

Alaska's Gold Nugget Tri Sells Out in 23 Minutes

The women-only Gold Nugget Triathon in Anchorage sold out its 1500 athlete field in 23 minutes when registration opened on Tuesday.  The 29th edition of the race will be held on May 15. More

 

New Balance Rolls Out New Ad Campaign

New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. said it is rolling out a new brand marketing campaign with the tag-line of, "Let's Make Excellent Happen."  The campaign includes TV, print, digital advertising, engagement with the company's online community, and viral video content as well as in-store and event exposure, Boston-based New Balance said. The campaign's marketing budget is not being disclosed. More

Tri-California Events Signs Three Year Deal with Orbea, Orca

Tri-California Events announced at the first annual Triathlon America Conference that they have entered into a three year partnership agreement with Orbea as the official bike and Orca as the official wetsuit of the Tri-California Event Series. Orbea, with U.S. headquartered in Little Rock and globally in Mallabia, Spain, has more than 50 combined dealer locations in California. More

TransRockies Organizers Add Gran Fondo in Canadian Rockies

TransRockies Inc., creator and organizer of TransRockies, a seven day mountain bike race over the Canadian Rockies, has announced its newest event, Gran Fondo Highwood Pass. This 147km Italian-style road bike ride over Canada's highest paved road will be held for the first time on July 9. The ride will be limited to 600 cyclists. More

 

Pittsburgh Marathon Adds 5K to Weekend Schedule

The Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon announced Tuesday the UPMC Health Plan/UPMC Sports Medicine 5K on May 14, the day before the marathon and half-marathon races.  The 5K race will be limited to 2,000 runners. More

Rick Lusky, race director of the Crescent City Classic and board member of the Crescent City Fitness Foundation died unexpectedly while at home Thursday afternoon. He was 62. Lusky had been the race director since the early 1990s. He was a three-time president of the New Orleans Track Club. More 

 

Elizabeth Giaquinto has been hired by Hincapie Sportswear as a sales representative in New York and New Jersey. Giaquinto will represent Hincapie for retail cycling apparel and accessory sales to independent bicycle dealers and sell Hincapie custom cycling clothing to clubs and teams in her territory.  

 

Todd Poseley has been hired by technology company Netsertive as its director of business development for the cycling industry. Poseley comes to Netsertive from lightweight gear manufacturer GoLite, where he served as director of North American sales. He also previously held leadership positions with Moving Comfort, Pearl Izumi and The North Face.

Race Timer

Ironman is looking for their next race timer. This is a full time salaried position with benefits.  Experience scoring is required. Experience with Championchip and Runscore is preferred.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, large database manipulation within excel, setting up networks at race sites, learning scoring software programming language, and preparing timing chips for use.  Ability to learn and adapt to technical programs is a must.  In addition to the skills listed here, this person would be expected to handle the stress of race day and maintain composure during intensive scrutiny by athletes and race directors. 

 

Specific duties for the position include managing and processing live data from large complex triathlons, managing a team of 6-8 people during race day and race week, setting up wireless and wired networks, coordinating with various internal and external parties pre and post race, learn and develop various processes related to timing, learn technical programs on the fly, large database management with Excel and Access, significant amount of travel on the weekends and some weekdays from May-October, flexible schedule on race week, and strong customer service skills.

 

Bachelor's degree from a four-year university, preferably IT related field, experience with large athletic events, ability to learn various detailed processes, ability to problem solve quickly and during non strong analytical skills, ability to plan months ahead and coordinate with multiple parties, strong customer service skills. Please submit word-formatted resume to pat@ironman.com
