American Sports Goods Acquired by Brown Shoe Co

The Orange County Register 

American Sporting Goods Corporation of Aliso Viejo, CA has been bought for $145 million by St. Louis-based Brown Shoe Co. Inc. ASG, founded in 1979, makes performance athletic shoes under the brand names Avia, technical running, walking and fitness footwear; ryka, a women's fitness and lifestyle brand; and AND1, men's performance basketball shoes. ASG's unaudited net sales in 2009 were $232 million with gross profits of $29.6 million.More 

 

Leadership Change Puts Quiznos Pro Challenge Back on Track

If the inaugural Quiznos Pro Challenge bike race in Colorado were an actual bike in the race, it wasn't careening off the track toward a high cliff but it seemed headed there. Thanks to the February 9 announcement that veteran race director Shawn Hunter is coming aboard as co-director, the Quiznos race is back in the peloton. If Hunter hasn't come to the rescue, he at least adds badly needed credibility to a foundering Quiznos organizational team. More

Gasparilla Distance Classic Continues to Thrive, Expects 27K Entries

The economy still struggles and the housing market continues to slump, but against those odds the Gasparilla Distance Classic road races manage to thrive 33 years after the first event was staged on the streets in Tampa in 1978. When the final numbers are tallied for this year's races - the usual 5- and 15-kilometer run Saturday followed the next day by a new half marathon and 8k - Gasparilla could once again eclipse all previous entry records with as many as 27,000 runners, joggers and walkers participating in the 2011 event. More 

 

Big 5 Sporting Goods Signs Deal with Honda LA Marathon

Big 5 Sporting Goods has signed a sponsorship agreement to be the Honda LA Marathon's official sporting goods retailer and the title sponsor of the its 5K race held the day before marathon. The 2011 "LA Big 5K" will be held on March 19 on a loop course beginning and ending close to the Honda LA Marathon Expo at Dodger Stadium. More

 

TriStar, Zoot Sports Agree to European Events Sponsorship

Gran Fondo USA Signs Alitalia as Official Airline

Gran Fondo USA, organizer of the United States-based Colngao Gran Fondo series, has announced a partnership with Alitalia Airlines that makes them the official airline sponsor of the rides.  The partnership works two ways. First, Alitalia will help to make the Colnago Gran Fondo events more accessible to Italian cyclists. Secondly, for each of the events organized by Gran Fondo USA, Alitalia will offer a free trip to Italy to two event participants. More

 

Pacific Sports, Eventage to Stage New Brooklyn Bike/Run Event

Pacific Sports LLC announced this week that it is teaming up with Eventage to organize the new bike/run Brooklyn Bun race through Brooklyn's Prospect Park. The race is composed of a 20K bike and a 3.3mile run, taking participants counterclockwise through the park's internal roads finishing on Center Drive. The 20K bike kicks off the event with a time-trial start, sending athletes off in 10 second intervals. Pacific Sports also announced that Champion System, makers of premium custom technical apparel, will be supporting the event. 

Interbike Creates Exhibitor Advisory Panel

Interbike has formed an exhibitor advisory panel made up of 11 executives representing a broad range of manufacturers, suppliers and distributors for the bicycle industry.  The advisory panel will meet to discuss way to improve the Interbike experience.More 

 

Scotland's Lomo Watersport Enters Triathlon Market

Wetsuit manufacturer Lomo Watersport is branching into a new sporting sector with a new line of wetsuits, swim goggles, and swim caps for triathlon competitors. The Glasgow, Scotland based firm has added triathlon to the range of supported sports which includes kayaking, sailing and diving. More 

 

Without Limits Buys Steamboat Triathlon, Creates Colorado Tri Tour

Sports event company Without Limits Productions has purchased the Steamboat Triathlon.  With the new event, Boulder-based Without Limits is creating the Colorado Triathlon Tour - five races around Colorado scheduled from May to September, company co-owner Lance Panigutti said.  More

 

Eugene Marathon Signs Deal with Li-Ning USA

The Eugene Marathon announced this week that it has signed a sponsorship agreement with Li-Ning USA.  The company, whose U.S. operations are based in Portland, will be the official footwear and apparel sponsor of the May 1 race.

 

Edmonton Groups Support Velodrome Plan

Two sports groups say they support the idea of including an indoor velodrome in the proposed Coronation recreation centre. "It would be, as far as I can see, the only facility in Canada, and probably North America, to have a covered velodrome and a running track, and hopefully linked to the swimming pool," said Edmonton Triathlon Academy spokesman Brian Hetherington. Pat Bush has been promoted by Clif Bar & Company to national sales manager, sports retail.  He will manage eight independent sales agencies in the sports retail channel.  Since 2009, Bush has been Clif Bar's regional account manager for East Coast distributors in the sports retail channel.

Race Timer

Company: World Triathlon Corporation

 

Ironman is looking for their next race timer. This is a full time salaried position with benefits.  Experience scoring is required. Experience with Championchip and Runscore is preferred.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, large database manipulation within excel, setting up networks at race sites, learning scoring software programming language, and preparing timing chips for use.  Ability to learn and adapt to technical programs is a must.  In addition to the skills listed here, this person would be expected to handle the stress of race day and maintain composure during intensive scrutiny by athletes and race directors. 

 

Specific duties for the position include managing and processing live data from large complex triathlons, managing a team of 6-8 people during race day and race week, setting up wireless and wired networks, coordinating with various internal and external parties pre and post race, learn and develop various processes related to timing, learn technical programs on the fly, large database management with Excel and Access, significant amount of travel on the weekends and some weekdays from May-October, flexible schedule on race week, and strong customer service skills.

 

Bachelor's degree from a four-year university, preferably IT related field, experience with large athletic events, ability to learn various detailed processes, ability to problem solve quickly and during non strong analytical skills, ability to plan months ahead and coordinate with multiple parties, strong customer service skills. Please submit word-formatted resume to pat@ironman.com
