ING Partners with Competitor Group to Sponsor KiDS ROCK Events

ING has partnered with the Competitor Group, Inc., as the title sponsor of seven KiDS ROCK events across the country, with an estimated 17,000 kids in grades K-7 participating and hopefully developing a love of running and fitness through their experience. KiDS ROCK is a nationwide kids' running series held in conjunction with the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series. In 2011, ING will title KiDS ROCK events in New Orleans, Dallas, Nashville, San Diego, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Antonio. USADA Takes Over Drug Testing for Amgen Tour of California

The United States Anti-Doping Agency will be taking over the drug testing for the Amgen Tour of California for the first time and will be free to test any athlete at any time beginning February 15 and continuing through the race that runs May 15-22. In the past, the international cycling union, UCI, has overseen drug testing for the Tour of California and operates under its own rules. More |

Honolulu Marathon Generates $106M in Spending, $5.4M in Tax Revenue

December's Honolulu Marathon generated $106 million in spending and $5.41 million in state taxes, according to a Hawaii Pacific University study released this week by organizers of the marathon. Spending and tax collections were up from the previous year when the marathon accounted for $100 million in spending and $5.13 million in taxes. More

XTERRA Eastern Champs May Move in 2012

Richmond has come to a crossroads with the organizers of an off-road triathlon that has helped bring national recognition to the city's expanding trail system along the James River. The organizers of the XTERRA American Tour say they will move the event's eastern regional championship out of Richmond after the 13th annual competition here in June unless they receive financial help. "We're coming this year - we want to come forever," Dave Nicholas, managing director of the tour, told Richmond officials at a meeting January 5, during which he asked the city for $25,000. More
NC Mountain Bike Stage Race Changes Dates for 2011

The third edition of the Pisgah Mountain Bike Stage Race is moving to a new spot on the calendar for 2011. The North Carolina stage race will happen from September 27 to October 1. Last year the race was run in mid-September and in its first year, it happened in mid-October. "We changed the dates to avoid conflict with other events. It is now a week after Interbike to allow sponsors to make it to the event," promoter Todd Branham of Blue Ridge Adventures said. More

City Council Faces Question of Allowing Palos Verdes Marathon in Town

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA city council members found themselves at a crossroads Tuesday night when faced with the question of whether to allow a marathon with a more than 40-year history to be held primarily in Palos Verdes, which would impact some 1,600 households.The 2011 Palos Verdes Marathon is planned to start and finish within Rancho Palos Verdes for the first time. Scheduled for May 14, the council had to consider a rushed timeline and whether or not they would have time to hold a public hearing. More

Akron Marathon Provides $4M Boost to Local Economy

A study by the University of Akron's Department of Economics of the 2010 Road Runner Akron Marathon has determined that the race generated an estimated increase in economic activity totaling more than $4 million, almost $600,000 in increased local incomes, and the equivalent creation of over 24 full-time jobs. According to the study, the 2010 marathon attracted 11,051 race participants, of which 5,966 were local and 5,085 were non-local. More

Former president Stephen Gartside has moved into the position of COO.
