Brooks Takes Top Spot in November Specialty Running Store Sales

Running company Brooks Sports, Inc. announced today it took over the No. 1 market share position in the specialty running channel for November 2010. In data recently published by market research firm Leisure Trends Group, Brooks' total brand market share for November reached 18 percent in dollars, edging ahead of Asics, which has held the lead position every month for more than a decade. In a record-setting year for the running-only brand, Brooks increased its 2010 overall brand sales revenue by 19 percent. Domestic revenue saw a 23-percent jump relative to 2009, while Brooks' international business pulled in an annual revenue increase in excess of 11 percent. More

 

Fleet Feet 2010 Sales Top $100M; Balega Honors Fleet Feet Stockton

Temple Study Shows $50M Impact for US Road Sports Races

US Road Sports & Entertainment Group's three largest races, according to Temple University's Sports Industry Research Center, generated more than $50 million dollars in impact and created 549 jobs in Miami, Chicago and Atlanta in 2010.  The study focused on local and non-local participant spending at the US Road Sports-owned 2010 ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, 2010 ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon (now the Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon) and the 2010 Chicago Half Marathon and 5K. LA Marathon Partners with Crowdrise, Sets $4M Charity Goal

Wharf to Wharf Donates Over $300K to Santa Cruz Organizations  

Santa Cruz Patch 

The financial arm of the Santa Cruz Wharf to Wharf road race broke its own record and donated gave away $304,657 in 2010 to organizations around Santa Cruz County, the most donated in one year in the race's history. The largest amount, $78,000, went to Santa Cruz High School to help pay for its new track facility.

ATC to Use Lottery for Peachtree Entries, Increases Field to 60K

The Atlanta Track Club, organizer of the AJC Peachtree Road Race which takes place every year on the Fourth of July, announced that it will use an online lottery system for entry into the 2011 event, and that it will be increasing the event's capacity for the first time since 1998 from 55,000 to 60,000 participants.  With the online registration slots for the 2010 event filling in just four and a half hours, the Atlanta Track Club made the decision to move registration to an online lottery to establish a fair registration process for entrants. More

 

Peloton Publishers Launch New Triathlon Magazine

Move Press, the publisher of Peloton magazine, announced the launch of a new triathlon title this week. The first issue of 3/GO will be unveiled at the Wildflower Triathlon in April and will also hit newsstands that month.  The six-times-per year magazine will mimic Peloton with content aimed at the modern triathlete.  More 

 

Myrtle Beach Marathon Expects Drop in Entries

For the first time in its fourteen years, the Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon is expecting a decline in runners. 7,800 runners have registered so far this year. But this time last year, 9,200 pre-registered. Organizers  canceled the event last February because of snow. More

TownBank Renews Sponsorship of Shamrock Marathon Weekend Race

J&A Racing of Virginia Beach ihas announced that TowneBank has renewed its title sponsorship of the TowneBank 8K, one of four races which comprise the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon weekend.  "TowneBank is extremely proud to sponsor the Shamrock 8K," says Will Sessoms, TowneBank Virginia Beach president.  The race will be held on March 19. 

 

Pittsburgh Marathon Modifies Course, Increases Field Limit to 18K

A course charted for the Pittsburgh Marathon could one day accommodate up to 35,000 runners, but for now organizers will stick to 18,000.  Leaders on Wednesday announced new starting and finish lines for the May 15 race, and a 2,000-runner increase over last year's registration cap of 16,000. Scott Montgomery has joined Lifeboat Events, producers of the cycling industry events PressCamp, DealerCamp and Urban PressCamp, as the company's chairman and a major investor.  Montgomery will work on strategic direction, expansion of the Lifeboat Events brand outside North America, and other day-to-day growth issues.  He previously worked for Scott Sports.

 

Brewer Rowe, Matt Gray, Deb Weinreich and Jon White have been promoted to new positions at Rhode Island-based Eident Sports Marketing. Rowe is now executive vice president, Gray is vice president of sales and Weinreich is vice president of public relations and Marketing. White was named race director of the 2011 Cox Providence Rhode Races and Turning Stone Races. 

 

Terry Duran has been promoted to national sales manager for Scott Sports. bicycle divison.  Duran was the company's regional sales manager for the Southeast.

Event Manager - Team MultiSport

The overall objective of the event manager is to work as a team leader for the Muddy Buddy Ride and Run series and serve as the overall event manager for multiple races within the National Series. The event manager will oversee permitting, course design, equipment set-up and tear down and management of temporary event personnel and volunteers. Operations Manager

The Operations Manager will lead an operations team for a group of 5-8+ Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series running events, with a focus on course design and implementation and will guide and oversee all operational aspects of the race, including start line, finish line, band sites, water stations, cheer sites, medical stations, etc. This will include designing all band sites, cheer sites and medical stations which requires a keen sense of direction and understanding of the scope of the event. The position will include high-level coordination and direct interface with city special events offices, police, traffic control, local contractors, vendors and management of staff to aid the successful execution of the event, and as such will require a significant amount of travel, often for up to a week at a time. The position will also require the ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment with the added ability to multi-task. All this must be done in a professional manner with the ability to work well in a team atmosphere. This is a "Hands-on" and "High-energy" position.  This position reports directly to the Director of Operations and works closely with the Senior Vice President of Operations.
