USA Track & Field to End 2010 in the Black

USA Track & Field expects to finish the year within its $20.4 million budget, having conducted major events under projected costs, generated $12.1 million in sponsorships and netted $2.7 million in U.S. Olympic Committee grants.  USATF's governance and administration costs totaled $6.4 million, including $573,700 to former chief executive officer Doug Logan. USA Triathlon Creates Elite Race Series

USA Triathlon

USA Triathlon has created the USAT Elite Race Series, a domestic, draft-legal six-event series, to provide an opportunity for the nation's top Olympic-distance triathletes to compete for more than $300,000 in prize money. The six events that comprise the series will be held in Clermont, FL (March 5), Miami (May 22), Monroe, WA (June 25), San Francisco (July 9), Buffalo (September 24) and Myrtle Beach, SC (October 8). Each site also will host an age-group race in conjunction with the elite event. More

ITU Statistics Show Growth in Triathlon TV Audience

Triathlon is being watched by more people around the world, according to the International Triathlon Union's (ITU) 2010 television audience statistics. A significant gain in ITU's television reach in 2010 from the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series underscores triathlon's continued growth, officials claimed.  In all 556 hours of ITU's events aired in 2010, up from 350 hours in 2009, according to the research carried out by Upsolut, ITU's organisation and marketing partner for the World Championship Series, in conjunction with IFM Sports. More

Endurance Sports Marketing Group, announced this week that it will be the official agency of record to sell the expo space and aid in sponsorships for the Echelon Gran Fondo events. Endurance Sports Marketing Group sells and consults for over 60 cycling, running and triathlon expos around the U.S.  The company also specializes in sponsorship execution and field marketing for many national companies at these large events. New Jersey Marathon Course Evolves Toward One Loop

Art Castellano, the director of the New Jersey Marathon, said last week that the May 1 race will expand south in 2011. Castellano said Oceanport was added to the marathon circuit, which was a turning point. "By adding that distance in the northern end of the course, we were then in the vicinity of being able to be a one-loop marathon course," he said. "Without Oceanport, we would then need to go into Belmar and Spring Lake and that's not possible because of bridges."  More

 

New Texas Marathon Cancelled Over Permitting Differences

The inaugural Comerica Collin County (TX) Marathon scheduled for March 6 has been canceled. Marathon president Jack Bick said recently disclosed police requirements from Allen and Plano made the event "financially and logistically impossible." "With the restrictive and unwritten regulations, there may never be a marathon in Collin County," Bick said. Allen public information officer Jon Felty presented another opinion.  "The group's planning and pre-marathon preparation didn't meet the standards we would need to grant them a permit," Felty said.  More 

B.A.A. Gives Towns Additional Marathon Entries

A handful of towns on the Boston Marathon route will receive additional invitational entries in what race organizers say is continuing support for towns that contribute to the marathon and worthy charities. The Boston Athletic Association increased the quantity of numbered bibs it will give to Ashland, Framingham, Natick and Wellesley. More

Joplin, Reinke Settle Mother Road Marathon Dispute 

The Joplin Globe 

The city of Joplin and sports promoter Dean Reinke agreed to a settlement Monday in the dispute over  ownership of the "Mother Road Marathon" name and trademark rights. 'Ultimately, we believe it is in the city's best interest to conclude the case quickly," Joplin City Attorney Brian Head said today."We can go ahead and put together the 2011 race without any litigation looming over the event." Reinke will receive $20,000 and drop all claims, Head said. More

 

Nation's Largest Half Marathon Sells Out for 10th Straight Year

The 500 Festival announced this week that the 35th running of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon sold out with 35,000 entries on December 28. The event is scheduled for May 7.  The event has sold out for 10 consecutive years. More

 

New Santa Cruz Bike Business Offers Indoor Training, Bike Parking

Rob and Kimberly Mylls, owners of a new cycling enterprise in downtown Santa Cruz, CA, are hoping 2011 will be the Year of the Bike, for experienced riders and newcomers alike. Expected to open in late January, Bike Dojo will offer secure indoor parking for more than 100 bikes, as well as spin classes, outdoor guided rides and virtual reality rides in 2,000 square feet on the first floor of the University Town Center. Chuck George, executive race director of the New Orleans Track Club for the past 20 years and the face of the local running community for a generation, is stepping down from his position after the annual Jackson Day Race on January 9.  He said the approximately 30 races he had been producing with the NOTC had become too many. He now expects to produce 12 to 15 races per year with his own company, New Orleans Running Systems, for which he has been arranging races for 27 years. More

Sean Pfister has been hired by the New Orleans Track Club as its executive director.  Pfister previously had been the executive director of the Chattanooga Track Club.

Race Director /Event Production Team Member

Event Manager - Team MultiSport

The overall objective of the event manager is to work as a team leader for the Muddy Buddy Ride and Run series and serve as the overall event manager for multiple races within the National Series. The event manager will oversee permitting, course design, equipment set-up and tear down and management of temporary event personnel and volunteers. This will require a strong understanding of multisport operational event requirements.  The position will require leading and working with a team in all functional areas of the company- marketing, public relations, customer service and accounting. It will also require communication and management of temporary staff and independent contractors to aid in the successful execution of an event. Experience in managing relationships with key stakeholders is integral to this position.  Flexibility to perform similar duties for other divisional multisport projects will be expected. Medical Coordinator

FOTW's mission is to advocate for, create, and maintain mountain biking opportunities in Chittenden County, Vermont. FOTW's new Executive Director will be a demonstrated leader who is creative, self-directed, motivated and passionate about mountain biking. He/she will have excellent communication skills, be social media savvy and be a people-person comfortable in the office managing FOTW's membership, finances and other administrative tasks. Job responsibilities include: spearheading communication/public relations with members, the community and media; growing and retaining membership; organizing special events and other fundraising opportunities; advocating for easements on current and future trails systems; and working with Fellowship's Trails Manager and Trail Crew to manage and develop the existing trail network. This will be a three-quarter time work-from-home position with substantial room for growth. Operations Manager

The Operations Manager will lead an operations team for a group of 5-8+ Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series running events, with a focus on course design and implementation and will guide and oversee all operational aspects of the race, including start line, finish line, band sites, water stations, cheer sites, medical stations, etc. This will include designing all band sites, cheer sites and medical stations which requires a keen sense of direction and understanding of the scope of the event. The position will include high-level coordination and direct interface with city special events offices, police, traffic control, local contractors, vendors and management of staff to aid the successful execution of the event, and as such will require a significant amount of travel, often for up to a week at a time. The position will also require the ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment with the added ability to multi-task. All this must be done in a professional manner with the ability to work well in a team atmosphere. This is a "Hands-on" and "High-energy" position.  This position reports directly to the Director of Operations and works closely with the Senior Vice President of Operations.
