Boston Marathon Restructures Leadership Team

The Boston Marathon is expanding its leadership team to retain the experience of executive director Guy Morse while transferring day-to-day operations to Tom Grilk. Morse has been appointed the Boston Athletic Association's senior director of external affairs, while Grilk, most recently president of the BAA board of governors, has been named executive director. Paratriathlon Added to 2016 Paralympic Games

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced that the sport of paratriathlon will officially make its debut at the Paralympic Summer Games in 2016 in Rio De Janeiro. UCI to List Approved Competition Products Online

The International Cycling Union (UCI) will soon begin maintaining an online list of cycling products that comply with its rules for competition, it announced Monday. Manufacturers of approved products will be eligible to label them as such, and will be able to get products approved before manufacturing by working with a new liaison. "The controversies over the conformity or otherwise of a particular piece of equipment as well as the banning of equipment at the start of races will once and for all be in the past," the UCI promised in a press release. Beach to Beacon Faces New $25K Park Fee

Maine's Beach to Beacon road race organizers must now pay $25,000 to use Fort Williams Park. The Cape Elizabeth Town Council voted Monday to institute the new fee for the 10K race, which is scheduled for August 6. Throughout the 13 years since the race began, the town has not charged any money for use of the park. The idea to charge the race organization, said Town Manager Mike McGovern, has been brought up before, but gained traction this year as town officials began looking into ways to bring in additional revenue for park upkeep. Boulder Doctor Looks to Develop Endurance Focused Sports Center

David Saintsing, a Boulder, CO resident, doctor and amateur triathlete, is under contract to purchase 20.2 acres of land that he hopes to develop into an estimated $30 million sports fitness center called Boulder Element that would be focused on endurance athletes. Saintsing's proposal is in addition to a larger project proposed by another Boulder doctor. More
Yakima Acquires New Zealand Rooftop Car Rack Manufacturer

Yakima has acquired New Zealand based rooftop car rack manufacturer Hubco. Hubco will continue to operate independently with its existing management team remaining in place. The transaction is effective immediately and the terms of the deal are private. With this acquisition, Yakima becomes the owner of the fastest growing brand in Australia and New Zealand. Yakima will sell the premium Hubco's Whispbar and Prorack products in the United States and internationally. More
Missouri City Sues Race Promoter for Trademark Infringement

The city of Joplin is suing to prevent a Florida sports marketing firm from using the name Mother Road Marathon. Joplin officials say Reinke Sports Group is infringing on the city's trademark for the marathon, which is a series of races on historic Route 66. The city filed an injunction in Jasper County Circuit Court last month, and the case was remanded to federal court in Springfield on Thursday. More

Only those living in the area from Furry Creek to D'Arcy were allowed to sign up for the 16th annual event and the speedy sign-up was no surprise to race director Cliff Miller. More

Joann Flaminio has been elected Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) President by the B.A.A. Board of Governors, the organization announced today. Flaminio, 54, will be the first female president of the organization, which was established in 1887, and she will be the 23 rd president in B.A.A.'s 123-year history. She has been a member of the B.A.A. since 1993 and has been on the B.A.A.'s Board of Governors since 1996. A native of Worcester, MA, she is employed as a vice president in the investment industry and has served on numerous philanthropic and athletic committees during her years of involvement with the B.A.A.
Chris McGee has been named as the new executive director of the American Cycling Association, a Denver-based sanctioning body that began in 1995 as the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado. McGee will take over the position from Jon Tarkington. He has worked for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, the Arthritis Foundation, The Sports Authority and the LH Thomson Company.
Geoff Sims, the man credited with transforming Scotland's Edinburgh Marathon, passed away on Friday at the age of 46 after losing a battle with cancer. During his seven years as race director, the marathon blossomed from 3000 runners to more than 23,000 this year. More James Samuel has been hired by Hincapie Sportswear as the company's new general manager. Samuel has spent over 15 years developing and managing international brands in the cycling and outdoor sports markets, including Cloudveil, Pearl Izumi and Sugoi.
Nikki Wylder has joined New Zealand-based RunPix as a sales and marketing representative. She will be working to increase sales to events in North America and the United Kingdom. |

The Operations Manager will lead an operations team for a group of 5-8+ Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series running events, with a focus on course design and implementation and will guide and oversee all operational aspects of the race, including start line, finish line, band sites, water stations, cheer sites, medical stations, etc. This will include designing all band sites, cheer sites and medical stations which requires a keen sense of direction and understanding of the scope of the event. The position will include high-level coordination and direct interface with city special events offices, police, traffic control, local contractors, vendors and management of staff to aid the successful execution of the event, and as such will require a significant amount of travel, often for up to a week at a time. The position will also require the ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment with the added ability to multi-task.
