Pacific Sports Brings TriStar Triathlon Series to North America Pacific Sports LLC
Pacific Sports LLC and Star Production SARL have announced their exclusive partnership to bring the European triathlon series, TriStar, to North America in 2011. The TriStar Series has introduced new distances to the sport of triathlon with four events in Europe during 2010 and plans to expand to 30 events worldwide over the next five years. More
Nike Starts 5-Year Plan to Expand Retail Outlets Los Angeles Times
Nike Inc. has set in motion a plan to expand its global retail foothold by opening 250 to 300 new stores over the next five years. Nike's expansion plan calls for a mix of discount-minded Nike Factory Stores in outlet malls and Niketown stores, which sell newer and exclusive items and are often found in upscale shopping centers. USA Triathlon Selects 2011 Championships Locations USA Triathlon
USA Triathlon has announced the dates and sites for it 13 national championship events for 2011. Ten cities were selected to host championships. The cities include Midway, UT, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Tucson, Longmont, CO, San Diego, New York, Burlington, VT, Ogden, Utah, UT; and Myrtle Beach. More |

San Antonio, Competitor Group Work to Extend Agreement
Work continues on a bid to extend by five years the contract for the Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon and Half Marathon. Susan Blackwood, executive director at San Antonio Sports, said officials in the city would like to extend the contract through 2015. An official representing the Competitor Group, which puts on the Rock 'n' Roll series in cities around the nation, said the goal is to "have it done by Christmas." The marathon, to be run on Sunday, is in the last year of the original three-year deal.

"We want to win the hearts and minds of high school kids," Herbert Hainer, chief executive of adidas, said on Monday as the company set out plans to increase annual sales by more than half to $23.6B in the next five years. Dallas Approves White Rock Marathon Course Changes

The Dallas White Rock Marathon course has been approved by city officials and measured for official certification, race officials said Wednesday. Marathon organizers announced in May they would be relocating the startand finish of the December 5 event to Fair Park to improve race logistics, parking and space. The course will head past the Arts District and then leave downtown, minimizing past traffic issues especially for race-day church goers.

Two Cities Marathon to Return in 2011 with New Leadership

The Two Cities Marathon & Half will be back in 2011, organizers said, but the central San Joaquin Valley's only 26.2-mile footrace will have new leadership and possibly a new title sponsor. Next year's race should look more or less the same, said Debra Schmitt, one of the new co-race directors. Schmitt and Sherrie Flynn are replacing Mike Herman and Nancy Talley, who are heading up a new half marathon scheduled next May. More

Michigan Retailer Expands for More Running, Triathlon Space

Gazelle Sport is expanding its Grand Rapids area store for the third time since opening it in 1989. When completed, the 4,500-square-foot addition will increase the store by almost a third to just under 15,000 square feet. The $750,000 expansion will provide extra space for new product lines, including women's running and yoga and triathlon merchandise, said Chris Lampen-Crowell, Gazelle Sports co-owner and co-founder. Plans for the grand opening of Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park at its second location, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this weekend have been delayed.

Leah Flickinger has been named executive editor and Andrew Bernstein has been hired as gear editor of Bicycling magazine. Flickinger has been deputy editor of Women's Health magazine. Assist in the company's success through direct marketing efforts and unique selling opportunities, creating incremental sales through outreach to current and potential customers.
