Colorado's Quiznos Tour Unveils 2011 Route
The Denver Post
Next summer's Quiznos Pro Challenge bicycling stage race will begin in Colorado Springs, then move through the Rockies before finishing with a stage from Golden to Denver race organizers announced today. "This event will have a profound implication for the sport of cycling," said Steven Johnson, CEO of USA Cycling. "It will put cycling in the front- and backyards of hundreds of thousands of Coloradans." The seven stage race will begin on August 22. More

World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), producers of the Ironman branded triathlon events, announced and canceled its Ironman Access program within a day. The new program's cost was $1000 and allowed prospective Ironman participants "exclusive, advance registration" to its popular events. Criticism by triathletes led WTC to end the program. Nike has turned the city of London into a game board for a two-week competition called the GRID which the shoe manufacturer hopes will ultimately encourage young people who already jog for exercise to start identifying themselves as runners. The company has broken the city down into its 48 zip codes. Each zip code has four traditional phone boxes. Players compete by doing runs, which they start by going to one of the phone boxes, dialing a specific number, entering their unique identifier, and then following the instructions they're given, which send them to other phone boxes in the city. K-Swiss Reports 3Q Losses, U.S. Sales Improve

K-Swiss Inc.'s loss widened in the third quarter to $28.3 million from $2.9 million, partly due to a tax charge. Revenues decreased 12.8% to $61.6 million compared with $70.6 million in the prior-year period. Domestic revenues increased 13.2% to $27.1 millioon in the third quarter, and international revenues decreased 26.1% to $34.5 million for the same period. More
Energy Companies Extend Houston Marathon Event Sponsorships

Energy companies El Paso Corp. and Aramco Services Co. have extended their agreements as title sponsors of Houston Marathon Weekend events.
El Paso returns as sponsor of the 5K race through 2013 and Aramco Services is set again as sponsor of the half-marathon after extending its support through 2014. Chevron is the title sponsor of the marathon. More
Madison to Host 2012, 2013 U.S. Cyclocross Champs

USA Cycling has selected Madison, WI as the host city for the 2012-2013 Cyclocross National Championships. Additionally, the national governing body announced that for 2012 and 2013, the event will move from its traditional dates during the second week of December to the first week in January. The move made to better align the event with the international calendar. More
Frederick Festival Drops Marathon, Increases Half Marathon SizeFrederick News-PostThe Frederick, MD Board of Aldermen tentatively and reluctantly agreed to bid farewell to the annual Frederick Marathon at the request of Frederick Running Festival organizers.Instead, the organizers plan to expand the half marathon part of the festival, increasing its capacity from 3,500 to 5,000 and moving it to a Saturday instead of a Sunday. Festival director Rachel Ridgeway said this year about 600 people participated in the marathon and 2,600 in the half marathon. Bike Companies Use Program Sales to Benefit Bikes Belong Grants Bicycle Retailer
Cannondale and Shimano have aligned with Fuji, Giant, Specialized and Trek to fund the Bikes Belong Grant Program by participating in the Employee Pro Purchase Program. These Bikes Belong member companies collect a small donation from employees whenever bikes and equipment are sold at a pro-deal discount; this money in turn goes toward the grant program. More

Cyclocross Series Switches Finale to Massachusetts

The North American Cyclocross Trophy series is switching its 2010 series finale from Long Island to Massachusetts, the series announced Friday.
The series had been scheduled to conclude with the Whitmore's Landscape Super Cross Cup, November 20-21 in Southampton, NY. But, because of a construction project, Whitmore's has changed venues and will no longer be UCI sanctioned. The NACT series requires its races to be UCI sanctioned. The NACT will now conclude November 27-28 at the Bay State Cyclocross in Sterling, MA. More
Dunkin' Donuts to Brew 12K Gallons of Coffee for NYC Marathoners

Dave McGillivray, Boston Marathon race director and president of DMSE Sports, Inc., has been selected for induction into the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame. McGillivray, decorated age-group triathlete Susan Bradley-Cox and six-time Ironman world champion Dave Scott will be inducted at the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame's annual banquet in Colorado Springs in January. He has directed 150 triathlons including the 1990 ITU World Championship and the 1998 Goodwill Games triathlon.
Paco Borao of the Valencia Marathon in Spain has been elected as president of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). He succeeds Hiroaki Chosa of Japan who served as president for 20 years.
